I am making travel plans and it occurred to me that I was supposed to get a travel voucher for being a Superhost. I called Airbnb and they told me that my voucher expired on 1/1/2020. And that the previous one expired the year before and that I need to check my email. I don’t remember getting these emails. I have traveled several times using Airbnb and never once did they mention that I had a travel voucher I could use. They remind me a million times for everything else - but they would rather I don’t use the voucher, so of course they didn’t remind me.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was told there was nobody else who would speak to me and that they would “document my unhappiness.”
I really think this is deceptive. I am just so mad.
I’m sorry this happened to you but it’s not deceptive. This is the way it’s always worked.
Maybe deceptive is the wrong word. I do think it’s sneaky. And I am mad about it. I feel they should remind us at some point during the year in case we didn’t get the email. They could not tell me when this year’s reward will come out.
Seems like a lot of hosts don’t read the terms and complain that it can be used only on one reservation, can’t be applied to reservations already booked, expires after some time, etc.
I was wondering that myself, since I will be eligible after the current Superhost assessment.
I understand your feelings.
Everyone who gets an award gets it on their one year anniversary. And it’s good for one year. My reward comes in early July when the assessment period ends in June. My email is titled “You earned a Superhost Bonus.” If you go back search your folders, maybe your trash you might find it.
If you go to make a reservation and click apply coupon your bonus will be applied. I’ve already used mine so can’t get a screenshot to show you.
Okay. Well, now you know they aren’t going to do that and you know how the program works now or you can look it up. Another thing you should know is that the $100 has to be used all at one time. If you make a one night reservation somewhere and the total is $75 you don’t get to apply the leftover $25 elsewhere.
If you don’t want to read about it on the Airbnb site you can use the search feature here to read about the awarding and use of the bonus. You aren’t the first to be unhappy about not knowing how the program works.
You get an email confirming your superhost status every quarter and annually it includes confirmation of your annual voucher with confirmation that it’s valid for a year. @Perimaud
There’s nothing sneaky about it.
Worth checking your emails?
It won’t happen again, that’s for sure. I’d like to use this year’s for a trip this month . But I need to book now so out of luck.
Thank you and thank you for the info so that I don’t miss it again.
Call CS and ask them to extend it. They did it for me, extended a full year.
I’ve still not used it, and now I have two. Maybe one of these days I’ll actually lose my AirBNB guest virginity.
That’s awesome. Multiple people report that Airbnb did to them exactly what happened to Perimaud. Just another example of the arbitrary nature of their polices.
I also did not get notification on the second one. It expires in April.
I asked them to extend it. They refused.
I just recently traveled to Arizona and booked an Airbnb. When I was finalizing my payment, my $100 voucher was deducted automatically. I didn’t realize they expire so quickly. Can you speak to a supervisor and ask for an extension on the voucher?
A year? Does that seem unreasonable? Clearly they want to clear them off the books before they issue the next one.
This thread reminds me of the saying “no good deed goes unpunished.” What is the upside for Airbnb of awarding them?
I tried twice to talk to a supervisor. They refused to let me speak to anyone.
Then bleat loudly on social media…they hate poor publicity.
I think we do realize they don’t want us to redeem the vouchers. I didn’t even know I had them! Worked out well.
Good idea. Bleat loudly
Another thing to watch out for: As a guest I have to cancel a reservation. The host has a flexible cancellation policy but Air is keeping my $200 voucher which they automatically implemented on this booking.
