Huh! I never knew the words to what my sister was singing. This must be an old Girl Scout song.

I was never in Girl Scouts, but knew this ditty since I was probably 4 or 5, back in the early 50’s. Nor was my mom, who I recall teaching it to me, in Girl Scouts. I think it’s quite old, one of those childhood songs everyone knew.

I’m pretty sure it’s a novelty song written during WWII. Aside from that I don’t recall and am not looking it up. LOL

It was on the radio… also performed by Burl Ives, Bing Crosby, Bobby Darrin, Three Stooges, and Canadian kids’ performer Fred Penner. It was a lot more than a campfire song!
