Even if it was a misuse of the pan and heat?
Actually you donāt know that, so try cleaning it.
Should I mention this on my guest review?
Wear and tear.
How a pan can leave white marks on a glass cooktop by misuse needs to be explained to me. Iāve had a glass cooktop for about fifteen years. No marks and Iām not particularly careful. Also the apartment spent about three years being rented to long term tenants - no marks. Our larger rental has a glass cooktop too and is unmarked.
Maybe the pan was left there for too long under a high heat?
I canāt imagine it but if thatās the case, it must have been an accident surely?
Have you contacted your insurance company?
āMaybeā isnāt good enough, another clue that you shouldnāt be requesting money. Sure, maybe the pan was left there for too long under high heat (have you verified that this can cause the āstainsā you see), but also maybe your pans are not ācompatibleā with the cook top. Definitely check the ownerās manual. I found that some of our pans were not compatible when we bought our glass cook top range, and they were relatively high-end pans, too.
I have seen few complaints in cooking forums about glass covered induction cooktops, but Samsung makes black glass stoves and cooktops with radiant electric coils underneath that seem to have a lot of problem with spills baking onto the hot glass which cannot be removed by the recommended glass cleaner.
I donāt see how you can pass this on to the guest? Glass cook top are notorious for having problems. Perhaps you should contact the manufacturer for ideas.
I have two glass cooktops (not induction) in our Airbnbs and one in our kitchen. They all have slight marks like you describe and it is annoying that you donāt see the lovely pristine unmarked glass top but it is, after all, only cosmetic. Iāve found that Magic Eraser works quite well to reduce the white area.
I get those marks too, usually when I get a boil over or start with the bottom of the pot wet (accidentally). I have pretty hard water (high mineral content) Itās my opinion that that is most likely the cause. I have always been successful clearing it away by scraping all the residue away with a razor knife, scrubbing it with a steel wool soap pad and finishing it off with glass stovetop polish. Takes some time but it always works for me.
Yes, Iāve always been able to also. Iāve never had any permanent marks. Iāve used a specialist cleaner sometimes (I forget which) but usually a regular domestic cleaner like Barkeepers Friend does the trick.
Welcome, blasty! Airbnb is very reluctant to reimburse hosts for anything like that. Even if you have damage to a sofa there are lots of hoops to jump through, and you still might end up disappointed. You need proof of purchase receipts, pictures and it all has to be submitted BEFORE your next guest checks in.
