Slow here too (central coast California). We had just started out this time last year so I don’t feel super confident its seasonal compared to last year. We’ll see…I’m taking the break to deep clean and have a break from being on. Hosting is stressful for me.

We have 3 people showing up on Friday for 2 days. First guests this month after being booked solid for several months prior. True confession: I’m seeing these guys as an irritating distraction… we’re painting and getting floors sanded. And these boneheads are totally ignoring my messages - haven’t had that before.

very very slow here in the Cotswold, UK

For us, November thru January is the season of last-minute bookings. Lower your prices, adjust your calendar settings to accept same-day guests, and keep the room ready!

Even slow in Hawaii… but that has been the seasonal pattern over the last five and a half years as a host. When they start getting cold or there are airfare sales I will see more bookings come in.

I had a very busy last week and thougt Yey, the season started only to not have any bookings for the past 4 days😢. i don’t know how it works, very unpredictable

I am booked through end of next week and have nothing until late December not even for Christmas. But require a block to be booked and also I have higher prices. In the past, guests have created situations where they broke up Christmas week and I was unable to rent the other half… OR… I was forced to clean on those days. Just don’t want that again. Would rather have it sit empty than compromise.

Very gratefully slow around these parts. I had a single guy stay with us last weekend which was our only guest this month! Considering we desperately needed a break, it is perfect timing, especially as our last guests two weekends before that were awful.

This guy was actually cool enough that I took him out to a cocktail bar and we brought a pizza home to share with my husband after, and I also hung with him on both long lazy mornings. My husband even drove him to his friends when he checked out :). Although I was exhausted from all the hosting, it was nice to finish things for a bit on a good note rather the bad that the lasts guests were. We believe that it’s about 50/50 for us in terms of guests that we enjoy and those that we can’t wait to leave. That’s pretty terrible.

I actually spoke to a good friend of mine who also hosts a multi room huge place (old church) recently, and she seemed so burnt out and depressed she was like a completely different person. I was so saddened. She is a well known and phenomenal artist that is represented by a gallery in NY. Unfortunately this doesn’t pay the bills for a large place where we live, and they are heavily invested in Airbnb now and rely majorly on the income. They altered their home to make more bathrooms so that guests staying wouldn’t all have to share the two bathrooms (although there are still shared bathrooms I believe). They are a very highly rated place with hundreds of five star reviews, but she has the same challenging guests we do. It’s hard. I feel grateful that we can take a break, and even stop if we want presently and just use Airbnb as a back up. I don’t know what I would do if we had to do this all the time.

Slow times are a time to restore emotionally! Even a few days makes a difference if you have guests in your home.

Yeah. November has been the slowest month for me so far. August through October were booked solid. November, I only have 11 nights booked and almost entirely during Thanksgiving week. I’m expecting things to pick up in December and January as those are beautiful months in LA. I’ve already jacked up the prices for the week between Christmas and New Years Eve.

I only was booked back to back in March . November I think will be similar to October. What I cdnt explain why I am always booked last minute only. There is never ahead of time reservations

I tend to be quite like that too Yana. It is really about the kind of guests I attract though. I get last minute weekenders who are looking for an attractive place to stay. I like these kind of guests the most. They are usually more laid back than the advanced bookers, and happy to have gotten a nice place to stay.

Which says something about your destination… It’s a place people tend to plan for getaways at the last minute. We generally don’t have that in Hawaii, because 100% of visitors arrive via airplane! Tickets are often books months ahead. I sometimes, but rarely, get last minute bookings.

Just wondering, do you get any/many guests from your island and other Hawaiian islands??

Not only was Nov slow (only weekend bookings) but December is wide open – not a single inquiry. This is the first year I’ve rented during winter – I was hoping to get a longer booking while we were on vacation for 2 weeks over Christmas. I love it when I feel like my vacation is being subsidized while we’re away.

Kona Hyatt is great, I love this hotel

I don’t know, my friend’ s house is booked till March. She always gets ahead bookings. With me from day 1 it was always the last minute. Yesterday guy booked literally standing in front of my door:)

KJ-- very rarely, but I do get guests from other islands. Never ever from this island. Nearly all my guests are from the U.S. Mainland, Canada and Europe. Lots of Germans and Swiss.

I have an English guest checking in tomorrow and begged her to bring me some Yorshire tea since it’s so cheap in England. She said she would be delighted to!

Yana, we don’t have a Hyatt here… You might be thinking of the Hilton?

No, you said you booked Hyatt in Washington. Did I mixed up posts,? Hehe

Yana,

How strange that your friend books entirely differently than you. Any idea what the difference is that attracts different kinds of renters?
