Super Host Relief Fund Invitation

You’re welcome. We are all looking forward to your interesting and informative posts.

Informative posts about what? So far I had 0 issues with airbnb for the past 5 years and only now I am feeling the heat. So I decides to come to the forum to add my concern to the list of concerns only to have your sarcastic response. Most superhosts are decent people, few are dicks. How informative is this for you?

The irony is killing me.

I received a grant.

Good luck to everybody on this forum. In a perfect world, every host would get something.

I understand that the deadline to receive an invitation has been extended to the end of May, with notices of any award to be sent out in June

And is it just me or - once again- do we have the usual suspects and there still is more bullying and rudeness going on from the moderator and other hosts to the guy/gal who expressed dissatisfaction with Airbnb?

@Boris_Maya
Sorry. I feel your pain especially as far as Airbnb goes

It’s completely possible someone from AirBnB will read this thread.

Still no word to me about any possible grant.

@KKC
Unwarranted and rather mean sarcasm, to a new member even, is hardly becoming from a “moderator”

Good luck @Donewithairbnb

Not nice to a first time poster

Sure, it’s possible, but unlikely. They have their own moderated forums that they sort of keep up with. They are no doubt getting plenty of calls and emails from hosts who need every cancellation non payment explained and who are contacting them about their non-invite for the SH relief fund. And they have laid off 25% of their workforce.

I’ve been on this forum 6 years and it’s never seemed like Airbnb reads the forum. What does happen is that forum member’s posts get republished in the media or on posts of bloggers piggybacking on Airbnb.

can someone tell me, is this different from the 25% payout that i got several weeks ago? i didn’t get an invitaiton, altho i saw the pre-invitation informational email. are they still doing the invitation thingie, and what is it really?

thanks

Yes two different schemes a) 25% refund for those with strict policy of the 50% you would have got back, if a guest cancelled, for hosts I think with cancellations from mid March (but check on their website).

Grant for superhosts 1 year + in need. ~Airbnb decides who to invite.

Airbnb sent info about these to all hosts a few weeks back. Information about grants also on Airbnb website and Airbnb Help @jeannez

Yes, there are two different programs.

The first one is the $250M fund to pay hosts 25% of their cancellation policy for COVID-19 cancellations between March 14 and May 31.

The second one is the $17M Superhost relief fund for Superhosts and Experience Hosts that lost most of their income. This one has a one time max payout of $5000. Requirements for this fund are:

  • Only share their primary or secondary residence—no more than 2 active listings [later revised to say you could have more than 2 listings if they were not located and more than 2 addresses, and the host needed to reside at one of the 2 addresses].
  • Show a reliance on Airbnb as a vital source of income
  • Have a verified identity
  • Have been a Superhost for 1+ years [later revised to say invitations would start with hosts that had achieved superhost status for 4+ years]
  • Have lost a significant percentage of their earnings due to COVID-19

In addition to Helsi’s comprehensive answer, I would add that Superhost status does not affect whether or not you receive the 25% refund. The 25% payout is a refund for AirBnB overriding your cancellation policy. The SH relief fund is a grant and an entirely different program/pot of money.

It could be the case that hosts receiving more of the 25% payouts are less likely to have “lost a significant percentage of their earnings” compared to other hosts.

so is this still going on? because aside from the info letter, i haven’t heard from airbnb about this grant program, and haven’t been invited to apply. most of my income comes from my guests

Yes it is but as has been mentioned on this and other forums…your chances of getting selected to apply are pretty minimal as they are only inviting a small amount of eligible hosts @jeannez

If most of your income comes from STR - depending on your location mortgage breaks, changing to LTR, looking for a temporary job, are all worth considering.

Could be! I would be surprised if the Grant team is weighing in the cancellation policy payouts. But who really knows with AirBnB?

Agreed. I hope that nobody is waiting for the SH grant or the EC 25% payout to carry them until they can reopen. AirBnB is paying hosts to save face. While any money is welcomed, it is not likely to be enough to keep a sinking ship afloat.

The windfall money from the SH grant is very much appreciated. However, the amount I received would not be enough to keep me afloat if AirBnB was my primary income. Thankfully, I own my home and live on site, and I can afford my mortgage whether or not I have guests. If I were an investor host or off-site host, I’d be bleeding money having unit sit vacant.
