I did paint them myself and they were old brown MDF cabinets. I took off all the doors and painted them. I used a white gloss paint with primer. I bought new handles but I reused and cleaned the hinges that were functional and bought new hinges for ones that weren’t working so well anymore.
BTW if you have kitchen cabinet doors that want to stay ajar and the hinges aren’t working well anymore, you can use a little Velcro attachment to make them stick when closed. Cut it small so it doesn’t show when closed.
True, the decal is not a good look for all rentals, like I wrote, depends on your price point and decor style.
@Karen the cabinets look great. You invested a lot of yourself in improving the kitchen.
I love using decals. I’ve got an empty corner so I’m thinking of putting this up
Yes! but 1) I love doing stuff like that (rather than pay someone else, too) and 2) I lived there and 3) I sold the place last year and people were climbing all over one another to buy it. I actually sold it with a lot of the decor and furniture intact.
Love the palm trees and yes, there are scads of decals on the web and usually $20 or less. For the Eifel tower decal I had to split it in half for top & bottom of fridge, but it wasn’t too hard to apply.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing your tips!
I should just adhere some hibiscus decals over the rust spots. Mind you now they are small. But again, rust never sleeps.
(I was actually going to suggest that.)
Same here. Many times we’ve served guests drinks. We place the glass on the coaster. The guest picks up the glass and places it on the furniture.
Also, what’s up with people who sit on the arms of chairs and couches?
Raised in barns…
I like them idea of a hibiscus decal. Depending on the decal plumeria would be pretty too.
After a year of short term rentals (11 months of 12), the stainless steel wrap held up wonderfully (no rips, no damages). I’m impressed with the wrap’s look & durabilty.
Unfortunately the white handle I painted black scratched easily and the white glared through. My goal was to get another year of use and I did, just barely. The refrigerator died. Because of its age and type of coolant used, it was cheaper to buy a new one.
Pic taken a couple of months before replacement.
About decals—I added this smal one of Mickey with a tropical hammock. I don’t know know if guests like it but I do.
That is cute but I don’t like the way it calls attention to the baseboards in need of cleaning or painting.
It’s a bad pic with shadows from a crappy camera. I do have repainting scheduled though.
Do you have a link to get some? I seem to have the same issue.
I got it at Walmart. It’s a Contact brand film that stays in place but can be lifted off without leaving a sticky residue.
That “stainless steel” looks amazing! fyi Jo Ann seems to have decals for home…
I put a whole collage on to my fridge inside the trailer and am disappointed in it now.
I recognize that art. I have always appreciated cooks magazine and their unique art
Going back a year…my kitchen is a galley kitchen in a small condo with a huge sliding glass door so lots of daylight when the blinds are open. I thought about the dark paint making things feel /look small so I went with a dark lower cabinet and white upper cabinets with a high gloss finish.
To paint the cabinets was a long process (cleaning, deglossing/liquid sanding, priming two coats, finish coat x2). I haven’t made time to install my hardware. I’ve been fortunate that the condo has good rentals so not much time to install hardware.
We did a Cheapo kitchen reno after much building and when we ran out of Money. House not rental. Painted the cabinets only. I personally glazed them after painting. You have to use Floetrol to get an even finish from a high gloss paint.
Sorry looking for pics but can’t find. Cheapo mnufactured home cabinets now yellow w/ glaze bottoms, Peachy uppers. jubokaltd @ houzz Kitchen project.
