Ring camera captures slithering snake on Scottsdale man's front door

Richard Doe received a notification from his Ring app saying there was motion at his front door. When he checked the app, it showed a slithering snake making its way across his front door.

Why I’m glad I live in Alaska, where there are no snakes.

Unfortunately, I live where there are snakes. I have zero fear of, or aversion to insects, but snakes are another story. I live alone, so have had to deal with them several times now, my heart pounding and stifling my screams. Once I went to brush my teeth before bed, turned on the faucet, then saw a snake slithering behind the taps- a baby boa. Another time went to unlock my bedroom door, which opens off the balcony, saw what at first glance looked like a slug through the glass door on top of the lock mechanism, but then it started moving and turned out to be another boa. Took me about 20 minutes to wangle it with a broomstick into a 5 gallon pail, quickly slam the lid on, and went to dump it in an empty lot a ways away the next morning. And once found one curled up under the dog’s water bowl.
If I had any motion detectors, they’d be going off all the time with all the critters that live here in the tropics. Snakes, iguanas, lizards, giant toads, skunks, possums, coatimundis, moths as big as your hand, tarantulas, not to mention the horses and cows that wander freely and the stray cats and dogs left to roam around.

I’ll take snakes over bears any day.

Currently the snakes are the least of my concerns. :sunglasses:

Is the electricity bill weighing on your mind?

Ah YES! But I can plan for that.

My real fear is the potential prolonged loss of electricity. CA has earthquakes, Florida has hurricanes, Midwest has tornadoes; damage to AZ power grid could be on par with any of those in terms of disaster.

2 summers ago when we had an extraordinary monsoon season, I experienced 5 power outages; most were only an hour or two but one lasted about 8 hours. My interim fix was to take my dog and sleep in my Tesla with AC going.

At some point when Politics turn away from the Power Company Lobbyists and the state actually starts incenting solar panels and batteries, I plan to invest.

That’s why I have a bearproof garbage can. None in the back yard so far this year, but they’re out and about in other neighborhoods. We have really strict garbage laws here, $100/$200/$300 fines. Most of the year, that keeps them in the woods, but there’s hardly anything to eat there yet. Spring will happen this weekend if we have enough sunshine, and yes, in the North, spring happens in about 3 days, from nothing to 3 foot plants once it starts.

You should get a solar charger for the Tesla!

That reminds me of when a friend of mine from Canada came to stay for a couple weeks. When she got back to Canada, she was telling someone else about her trip and about all the insects here and mentioned that there were scorpions. The other person said “How can she live there, with all those creepy crawlies and scorpions?” My friend replied, “And we have bears and cougars?”
Funny how people accept the wildlife where they live and don’t freak out about it, but can’t imagine how anyone could live somewhere where there is simply different wildlife.

OMG Imagine if someone was opening the door from inside, the snake would fall right on them.

I love all kinds of snakes and insects. I don’t care for the poisonous kind and I don’t want to be stung or bitten of course. But I love getting as close as possible for a look. I will kill wasps and black widow spiders without remorse though. I’ve never seen a rattlesnake in my city though, or even on a hike. I’ve only seen them in the middle of a deserted road, sunning.

Man I hate snakes, they give me the creeps

Oh wow, I just installed three Ring cameras in my sister’s house in N. Phoenix and this video was on the local neighborhood watch within a few miles. Had no idea it went national or viral.
