Tried to find my listing this a.m. going thru the listing in this small town. Mine was not listed and several others that are normally there were gone. There were several listings that were not in this town that have appeared.
Contacted Airbnb and kind of got some complicated not understandable explanations from people I had a hard time understanding. No help.
I looked at the former small town where I used to host to see 15 of the normal listings had disappeared and were replaced by ones not in that town.
I hosted for 3 years in Az. and never saw this happen. Now, have a new listing that has disappeared. Looks like a system wide problem. People should check to see if they can find their listings and complain.
What search parameters did you put in? Did you zoom in on the map? If there aren’t many listings Airbnb zooms out to widen the net so as to show more listings.
I did an incognito search for a day in July on mine and at first it didn’t show because the map was centered on a different part of town.
Not here in El Paso, TX
I’m in a tiny town in a rural part of eastern Va. so I put in the name of the town. I’ve done it this way since listing about 3 weeks ago so I know what all the listings should be and they’ve totally changed. Mine doesn’t even show up on the map. Lived in Patagonia, Az before that, and know all the listings there and most have disappeared to be replaced by listing not in that area.
Do you mean that it’s not in the search or that it’s not online? Can you get to it simply by going to the URL?
If under google I put in the name of my rental and town, it shows up. If I put in Airbnb, town name it is not listed as of today. I’ve looked at a few towns I know to see the listings have completely changed.
It’s in Google but is it there when you type in the URL? It can have gone since Google indexed it.
I just finished a customer service convo with Airbnb about this exact thing. I put the name of my small village in and on 18 pages of listings mine didn’t appear.
He told me to clear my cache and it worked! Back on page one
Thank you, thank you. I talked to 2 people at Airbnb and no one suggested this. Not a problem I’d run into before, but I cleared cache and restarted and my rental reappeared. A miracle, thank you again for that suggestion.
Always always always search for your own listing using a Google incognito (or equivalent) search.
Not sure what that means.
An incognito search will mask your location info from the sites you visit. (Usually File >New Incognito/Private window)
When you go in a (not-private browsing mode) search, Air remembers who you are.
They want to show you places you’ll book, so if you click on your own listing and then leave the session without booking…and do this a number of times…Air will remember you when you search the fourth time and say “Ah, I showed you that place 3 times and you didn’t book” and remove your listing from your search results.
Using a private session where you’re not tracked (as easily), you’ll get the unfiltered search results you want.
Or press control, shift and the n key. That opens up an incognito window straight away.
It’s quite unfortunate that no potential guest that may be doing extensive vacation planning will ever be told to clear their cache. I.e., guest that did a search in the area a week ago might never see your listing due to whatever strange things are going on with Airbnb’s servers.
Thanks everyone for your help. I’ve never used the incognito but have looked at a few sites constantly and until today it always worked. I’ll give your method a try.
