Potential guests are seeing a "Choose another place to stay" message

I’ve been experiencing this issue for the past several weeks:

Many potential guests, when trying to book my place, are seeing a “Choose another place to stay” message. There is language suggesting my place is unsafe and they should browse hotels instead.

After chatting with these would-be guests I feel comfortable with them staying, so I pre-approve them or send them a special offer, sometimes both. In all of these cases the message persists.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

The message in question:

air choose another place to stay

This has been discussed in a prior thread. It’s part of their effort to prevent big parties.

Is there a workaround? I tried searching for a prior thread but wasn’t able to find it.

I don’t remember hearing of one. The most fail safe workaround is to list on other platforms.

Choose another place to list

We learned back in March that the criteria for Airbnb to flag a reservation as high-risk is:

  • Guest is under 25
  • Guest is local
  • Guest has few or no reviews
  • Booking is short-notice
  • Listing is whole-home

I suspect the algorithm is more complicated and also evaluates other things Airbnb doesn’t want the general public to know they are tracking.

Unless you know that it’s not the case for your guests, you probably don’t want to try to workaround it.

I agree that its worth taking seriously. But I’ve also read reports from hosts that while the guest fit some of those criteria, they certainly didn’t fit all. Like the guest had many excellent reviews, wasn’t local, was trying to book a week ahead. Like many things Airbnb, there are glitches.
