PayPal payments delayed!

Same issue here, varying responses over the last 15 hours from Airbnb CS. I’m a Super Host in Vancouver Canada, waiting on a paypal payment (for a three-night stay) that is now 24 hours overdue. Last conversation was with CS supervisor at 08h00 this morning who said: 1. The problem is unequivocally at Airbnb’s end; 2. The problem relates only to paypal transfers and not other payout methods; and 3. The solution may be “up to 48 hours” away, which would mean some hosts will have waited four to five days. Totally unacceptable.

I agree whole-heartedly with all the comments here that Airbnb should have been out in front of this with proactive messages to affected hosts.

They are now saying on twitter that the problem has been resolved and the funds should be deposited shortly. Their messaging is all over the place. There is nothing on facebook about this issue. Not a very transparent company, perhaps they need a crisis communications team to deal with informing the millions of hosts/guests that keep them afloat.

Ditto!!! On the phone with them also, on hold!!! Emails have gone unanswered… and i’m PISSED!!! The guest paid a long time ago!! I provided service, so where is my PAYOUT??? My guest leaves tomorrow!

It’s now going on 16 hours past due. This is ridiculous. I’m in Hawaii but from all of your responses, this seems like a worldwide issue.

I can’t believe that some of you have multiple payouts due and stacking up. That’s unacceptable!

Why can they not get their act together on something as GD simple as PAYING US ON TIME!???

Yup same boat here. In USA funds were to have been released 4 days ago. Yesterday after no responses to my email inquiry I reached out via chat as their urgent care line had me on hold for 15 mins. Was told would be released within 24 hrs. Didnt happen so called helpline this morning. They said all transactions have to be done manually so will no idea how long. Guest checking out tomorrow. I want my money not mention have others checking in and paypal to bank transfer will take 2-3 days too. Not a millionaire have bills to pay!
I know such things dont happen often but they should really communicate such issues via email or aomething so people are kept informed at least. News should def get out to public as well to prevent this from happening again :frowning:

Yep, Jemma!

It seems they’ve got it sorted now so I think everyone should get paid soon … but the most disturbing thing about all this is their shadiness and unwillingness to address the issue professionally. This seems to be what’s rubbing us all up the wrong way - when really they should be “REACHING OUT” to us hosts - who are essentially their cash-cows!

It has left a very bad feeling and I wonder how many people are having second thoughts about continuing to host on there because of it. Sounds like some folk have already deleted their listings.

UPDATE

I talked to a really nice and knowledgeable CSR…

There are two issues… one with their own system on Saturday… which they say is fixed… the payouts from that are being released now. However, it caused a backlog to happen on Sunday and Monday’s payouts… and she expects them to be released by the end of the day. As they do them in batches, it’s not guaranteed that it could be done today. :((

On top of that … a NEW PROBLEM! Starting immediately, PAYPAL is changing their TOS to place a 3-5 day hold on all funds to verify them. So instead of getting paid immediately by AIR as has been the case up until now, you would wait the 3-5 days…! On top of that is the transfer time of 3-5 to your bank… so do the math! Just no way!

The CSR suggested that I go in and change my payout method to direct deposit. It will take them a few days to verify the bank account, via that method… so it won’t affect the incoming transfer.

She said that when we log into Paypal right now, we will have to agree to this new TOS, (3-5 days across the board, not just for AirBnB) which they were told would be effective IMMEDIATELY!

I am switching my default method to my direct deposit right now and hoping my payout is released in the upcoming batch!

Hey Kona!

Well I’ve just literally recieved my payout for last night’s guests so I would take what that person said with a pinch of salt and wait and see what happens… I kind of get the feeling they don’t quite know what really happening and just repeat the office rumours.

Just my opinion, mind you :-)!

Yes kitty… for sure… but it doesn’t hurt to add a new payout method…just so it is ready… you can leave it as Paypal…for the time being… BUT!!! if or when you log into Paypal and there is a new TOS to accept… read it carefully. If the 3-5 day stipulation is there… you have the direct deposit option and can change back and forth between them.

Does anyone here in the US have the Direct Deposit option? And if so, how long does it typically take?

HEY… Just as I was writing this, my payout came in! Yah!!! Oh wait a second… Look at this… It looks different!!! I don’t think paypal has it yet. :((

My payout was released to PayPal…finally!

I have been paid more than 48 hours after the check-in. I didn’t contact Airbnb because I knew it will be solved like the first time.
But there is one thing Airbnb could do : solve the erroneous display on the dashboard where the expected revenue is zero when we didn’t have been paid. In the current situation, the money disappear from the dashboard and then come back when the money arrives on the PayPal account. That is the biggest problem as it is really disturbing.

It wouldn’t be a ‘minor technical issue’ is someone owed them money!!

I get paid to my bank account and I have been waiting two days for the release for some time now, ever since this topic was mentioned last on forum. Once it’s released Airbnb^s email will tell me what date they expect it to hit my account, generally 3-4 days, but usually it arrives quicker.
However, today I got a payment for a guest that checked in Sunday, two days ago, and the amount is way over what it should have been. I’m going to have to call Airbnb about it.

Hi, Question, so you have them send it straight to your checking acct, correct? Generally you get an email saying they have sent your acct money and it usually arrives in your checking acct in two or three days, correct?

before this glitch was it always released 24 hours after they check in?

sounds like you basically get payment avail to you ready to use in your checking account two days after the guest check in – which is about two days quicker than paypal (when they don’t have technical errors)

I started Airbnb in March this year and the emails would come the next day that they were sending money to my checking account, but would say that it might not hit the account for 2-3 days. But in the past month I don’t get the email until two days after check in, so this had been going on for a while.
But once I get the email that the money has been sent, it usually doesn’t take 2-3 days, in actual practice it usually shows up quicker in my account.
I’m just saying I have been experiencing this delay for quite some time, vs the published “next day”, but it has been consistent, not more than two days to receive the email that the money had been released.
I don’t know that I would want PayPal in the middle of everything (personally). Don’t you have to pull the money out of PayPal and put it someplace else?

I’ve also got my payout. Seems its been resolved on their end. There might be alot of backlog so be patient if you haven’t got it yet.

… Well done, everyone :-)!!

Hopefully this will give them a wake up call!!

I received my payment late yesterday afternoon. I was glad to contribute to the article, they still haven’t apologized or sent an email explaining what happened. I’m wary of hosting in the future…

I’m a superhost in Australia. I have had nothing but excellent experiences with Airbnb customer services and out of 25 guest lots in 10 months, only one unpleasant experience.
My payments are made direct to a bank account. They’ve always emailed me the day after check in and funds have been in my account usually a day after that. Since about a month payments have been several days later. They always arrive thigh. Same comment from another local host.
I’m disappointed with the lack of communication from top level management.
