Opinions needed on guest toiletries

Remember that listings can support many people (up to “16+” on Airbnb platform) , so what you really mean is $150+ per guest or something similar, and that severely reduces your total available market.

This is true, but with TSA liquid restrictions, more people avoid traveling with shampoo, toothpaste, etc, and expect them to be provided by their lodging accommodations. I’ve found a lot of my colleagues do this for business trips that are 3 days or less. Of course, that doesn’t mean single-use containers are necessary.

This is true. Those containers are almost always “industrial compostable” and if they go to a landfill instead of a proper facility, they act just like any other plastic.

It doesn’t take too much imagination to realize this will eventually become regulation (it’s already started), not just voluntarily, and it will apply to all hotel-like industries. I think this is the biggest reason to avoid the idea altogether.

NO. I buy these things in bulk at Costco. Bing bottles of shampoo, body lotions etc… It’s way more economical for me. Why would I want to spend 6.99 on these? What if the guests stay longer? I don’t want to be coming to the house to refill these things, again, I’m not a hotel, I don’t have maid services. With big bottles they take what they need and they last a long time, just like we all do in our own homes.

Hi, I occasionally use a shower cap when I am deep conditioning my hair - wandering around with my hair smothered in product for an hour.
I generally only have time to do this when on a holiday, so the complimentary shower caps are always a blessing.
Also good to prevent hair getting frizzed & messed up again after - especially in the dreaded ‘rain shower’ that is so popular in hotels these days.

Just you wait until we show up en-mass with instructions for folding fitted sheets, duvet instructions (@KKC), and myriad other “helpful” hints and demands for directions for the tabanco across the street…

None of it was negative. All of it was from experienced hosts who have fought this battle and figured out the money, time, and impact on the environment. From a manufacturing software traceability standpoint, the whole laser engraving for individual boxes is unrealistic.

The math doesn’t work for anyone here. And we didn’t need the answer to this problem.

Now if you could teach my cat to mop floors and run the vacuum… :pouting_cat:

These people and their bright ideas do make me chuckle. It’s not only that they don’t really know what Airbnb is like, they also don’t know what we are like.

I’ve known plenty of forums in my time and I know that the hosts here are pretty marvellous people. Mostly we’re very busy people with at least one listing to look after, sometimes we have other jobs too, some of us do all the rental prep ourselves (because no one does it as brilliantly as we do), we all have lives and yet members here take some of their precious free time to come here and to help other hosts.

And yet people doing research of some sort, be it for a ‘brilliant new product’ a ‘time-saving fabulous app’, a ‘totally necessary service’ or even people doing research for theses, still assume that we want to give them our time and the benefit of our experience completely free of charge.

As conscientious hosts, we tend to be people-pleasers. Replying simply comes naturally to us. :slight_smile:

BTW: does anyone know why, when I select an emoticon on this site, it shows up as a word or words? “smile”, “joy”, “wink”, etc?

words between colons denote code that the back end software recognizes as an emoji.

it’s also one of the reasons that using apostrophes makes back-end php look like a password from hell…

It is a great idea. But is already out there see Custom Amenities, Brand Amenities, webrestaurantstore, vrsupplies, PineAppleHospitality, Accent Amenities, Abundle to name a few, think there are many more.
I hear you, am a big fan of hotel stuff. I was (during school years) a housekeeper at a fancy hotel. Never thought that knowledge would come in handy… Until now decades (many decades) later as a host.

Even though they are small, these little bottles are expensive to produce. The standard cost on a little guy is 50-60 percent of it’s big brother. And most people don’t rinse and recycle.

Something custom or home made is always a treat, like maple syrup, home baked muffins, or a signature liquid soap. A bespoke 10O ml bottle is charming, and invariably will be reused by travellers.

the Wild Boar Man tried to get me to put his 1 oz soaps in our VR. I thought about it for .5 second. At $2 a bar… I can’t afford it. Those little soaps end up 1% used, 99% trash. That would be like throwing $3.98 in the trash at every turnover. I will be sticking with bulk liquids.
