NASHVILLE Tennessee TAX question air bnb charges for occupancy tax but it's really sales tax?

Air BNB charges client occupancy tax but on talking to Metro Davidson County this is actually sales tax that they charge and pay. We are responsible for collecting occupancy tax which is 6 percent plus $2.50 per night which is due on the 20th of each month following. This is confusing for our clients who say they are already charged occupancy tax.

Is there a reason Air bnb doesnt just charge it as sales tax?

I don’t know about your specific taxes, but whatever Airbnb doesn’t explicitly collect, you really need to build in to your pricing so that you don’t surprise guests attempting to collect additional taxes/fees. I can see how this would stick in a guest’s mind at review time.

Thank you for your reply Brian. We have added it in and let people know there is a metro tax and how much it will be and we run it through air bnb.
