I did a search in my area and my listing is not showing up on my Mac computer on Chrome but not Firefox. When searching from my phone, my listing is showing up on one browser and not another.
I AM USING THE EXACT SAME SEARCH CRITERIA.
Anyone else have these results?
Did you use a private/incognito mode on both browsers?
What did Airbnb say about it?
Airbnb might not be overly concerned though. The last time I looked, only a small percentage of people use Firefox these days. And most people use the phone to access the internet. If my listings weren’t showing on the app, that really would be a concern.
No I did not use private or incognito.
This happened once before and we called Air and they did not really have a conclusive answer except to say that they use slightly different search criteria on different browsers. I assumed there was a reason for this that they did not tell me about.
I think that is odd.
She had me try the search on Chrome and my listing showed up, however it did not show up on Firefox. I now know is the preferred browser for AirBNB but I am disappointed that my listing does not show up equally on every browser.
You might want to try finding your listing (as a potential guest) on other browsers and see what you get.
Well I am glad that few people use Firefox because that is mostly where it is not showing up. I have several browsers on my phone so hopefully most people use Chrome.
Chrome is the most widely used browser on all devices. Safari is second and I suspect that’s because it’s the default supplied browser with iPads, iPhones and Macs.
Listings show up differently depending on the browser, as well as whether someone is using the app or the desktop. They also show up differently depending on the algorithms that kick in for a particular guest.
You need to use a private (Firefox/Safari), incognito (Chrome), or InPrivate (Edge/Internet Explorer) browsing window to prevent Airbnb’s system from reading all of the cookies on your computer/device that affect it’s search algorithm.
If you want to see your listing as users other than you see it, you MUST look at AirBnB without being logged in, and your browser must be in private or incognito mode. You need to open it in a private or incognito window, so all the cookies on your device are blocked.
You also need to take into account that if you have in your settings that guests must have a positive review or other criteria, then your listing will not show up in searches if you’re incognito.
Are you sure about that? Those are IB settings you’re talking about- it doesn’t mean that guests who don’t have prior or positive reviews can’t see your listing, just that they can’t IB it, because if they don’t meet your criteria, they can still send a request to book.
Nope but I read it in the Airbnb blog. It was a while ago so I might have misremembered although it seems likely that the search technology would block any listings in the results if those listings are unavailable to the searcher.
Then why do hosts who use IB also get inquiries or booking requests from guests who don’t meet their IB criteria?
I don’t have any criteria but nevertheless I get requests. They are usually guests who are simply asking specific location questions, whether the place is okay for someone in a wheelchair, can they bring their cat … and so on.
Did you read and understand Brian_R170’s reply?
Why would you want people to find you in a Google search and not on Airbnb.com? Before COVID, when we hosted, we ONLY used Airbnb.com. Frankly, I did not want random people finding us on the Internet. Unless you’re an actual STB business and Airbnb is just one of your many mediums for advertising, there’s no reason to be “found” on any browser. Guests just need to go to Airbnb.com and find places to stay there.
Why would you not?
That gave me a chuckle

Bc I use(d) Airbnb. My home address is publicly listed enough as it is - don’t need strangers calling at all hours expecting a place to sleep.
Glad you think hostsing is funny. I use(d) Airbnb. We don’t take walk-up guests. Too unpredictable and too much red tape.
