yes I blocked my garbage disposal unit with eggshell (christmas last year, decided to bake three large meringues). It was the 22 December and needed an emergency plumber. My eyes watered at the cost. No more eggshell down the waste disposal unit so lesson learned…
REALLY?! I am shocked. That is the #1 request I have (which I find supremely annoying as it is written 3 times on the listing, but hey, they are on holidays). I couldn’t imagine facing those questions and saying no so many times.
really. In about 10 different listings I’ve been provided a hair drier once (that was the guy in Warsaw). Currently staying with a superhost in Mexico - no hairdryer or (worse) TOWEL provided. Lucky I have a travel towel…
To be honest, I would NEVER leave any kind of femine hygiene product in anyone’s house, bin liner or not. I would go to the loo prepared with a plastic bag and dispose of said item in nearest trash can after leaving home (or preferably the special bins at nearest public toilet). That’s really gross to leave such things in anyone’s bin, bathroom or not especially as it won’t be emptied everyday.
Just out of interest - do you also avoid using the loo in a hosts home because it’s gross? How about having sex? Is that gross too?
Pretty much all of my guests have left feminine products in the bin in the bathroom. Not once was I grossed out. Wasn’t grossed out when I found blood on the bed either (irritated would have been a better way to describe it but I doubt it was intentional). Been there worn the T-shirt, can’t see why my guests (or I) need to pretend this isn’t a normal everyday occurrence.
I agree, It’s not about ‘being considerate to hosts’, it’s about recognising a perfectly normal thing. I have to clean up all kinds of crap left by men: shaving hairs in the sink, wank stains on sheets etc. Tampons in a bin is just normal. It’s beyond time that everybody got over menstruation. If women didn’t bleed every month there would be no babies and no human race. FFS.
@Zandra and @Lucy_R your comments are so rude and so unnecessary. Very disappointing and offensive. I won’t bother to respond to your nasty comments @Zandra about not using the toilet etc by your own admission you’re not very ‘lady-like’ but that just shows a really low level of maturity. I have respect for people’s homes and what I put in their bins and we are talking about blood products and waste material not designed to sit around for days in a small bathroom trash bin designed for ear buds, tissues, bandaid wrapper etc.
I am not ashamed of myself or my body and you should think carefully about saying that to another woman or anyone. Grow up.
You can have an opinion on such matters of hygiene without having to make fun of people is the most ungracious way on an Internet forum.
This has reminded me of a situation I had a few months back. Young female guest travelling alone, very nice, friendly and interesting. It was her first time doing Airbnb. We were having tea and chatting at the table when I noticed her face suddenly change mid-conversation. She stood up and said ‘oh god I’m so sorry’. She’d had an accident and the dining-chair pad was stained with blood. Heavy periods are a nightmare and can be exacerbated by long-haul flights (yes, I’ve been there) and sometimes take you by surprise no matter what precautions you’ve put in place. My guest was so upset and mortified, her eyes welling up and not knowing what to do. I just hugged her and told her not to worry. The loss of a cheap dining chair pad was nothing compared to consoling a young woman travelling alone for the first time in a foreign country. So yes, a bit of menstrual blood is nothing to freak out over. It won’t poison you.
What makes you think that bandaids and earbuds are more hygienic than tampons? And what host does not empty the bathroom bin at least every other day??
I bought a packet of small black plastic bags from the dollar store, a bit larger than a hand, they are dog poo bags. These are provided for disposal of feminine hygiene pads etc I don’t want guests putting them in the toilet and blocking my septic pump.
