Legal Weed & Airbnb

Very smart. As the first state to go legal I can only imagine the type of “guests” you may have to deal with.

Sounds like you’re dealing with people who come BECAUSE of legalization.
Now that can be annoying to deal with. I totally understand… but this again is business so you have to accomodate to your clientele.

P.S.
IF YOU HAVE KIDS OR PETS … please make sure all edibles are properly consumed and thrown away out of reach… even crumbs.

My lil chihuahua accidentally ate cookie crumbs and she was high for 72 hours. I totally freaked out and googled it… apparently Denver has had increaced vet visits… FWIW: they’d have to consume pounds of weed to have serious issues.

Interesting to read about the issues around the legalization of weed and Airbnb-ing in the US. It often sounds as if now that weed is legal, it almost automatically follows in people expecting to be able to smoke it anywhere. This despite the fact the US have the most extreme laws against smoking I know.
I live in Amsterdam, kind of the Mother of legal weed smoking till now. And for one, if there’s smoke, it’s considered smoking, tobacco, weed, or an old rag if you fancy rolling that in your cigi. So if there’s a non-smoking rule, don’t think weed is an exception, no matter if medicinal or simply recreational . Even with weed having been legal here (with certain limitations) for ages, it was always on par with tobacco smoking, and nobody here will ever consider just lighting up for that reason and because it wasn’t meant for the public space. Even when smoking was still allowed in bars, cafes, restaurants it never, ever included weed, except in the designated so-called ‘coffee shops’ (you always go for coffee in cafes and not to coffee shops BTW).
Want to piss off your Airbnb host here in Amsterdam, break their non-smoking rule by smoking weed!

Mate, it’s the multiple, incoherent posts that makes me think you may be over-stimulated…

It’s very common, ‘thanks mate’ would be normal for a female to stay even in a corporate workplace

Jeeze in my younger days I had to go all the way to Amsterdam to get stoned. Now I could just go down the block and I don’t even want to.

maybe she’s drinking one of those super caffeinated soft drinks like Monster…I have to drink 8 cups of coffee to approach the effect of those HEY I’M JOKING

I read once that caffeine is the most commonly used mind-altering drug.

I heard too that the most commonly used four letter word in commercial kitchens sounds like - but isn’t - ‘fork’.

I live in a state with legal recreational marijuana, and I allow guests to smoke pot inside. This may seem radical, but it has actually mostly attracted guests who are a good fit. Stoners are usually pretty mellow and fall asleep after watching a movie, whereas the drunk guests come home yell-talking in the middle of the night, open and close the garage door repeatedly, and spill drinks on odd surfaces such as the wall. I have strict rules about no tobacco use inside and no illegal drugs, and haven’t had any issues so far regarding drug use. I live upstairs and rent my basement apartment, so I can keep an eye on things. I do ask guests to open the window or run the fan, and I did have guests forget and new guests arrive before I could air it out on the same-day change over. This has been the only problem, but one to be aware of. The smell of pot doesn’t stick around to the extent cigarette smoke does, but I do need to burn a candle and have some ventilation to get the suite smelling sweet again.

Those from out of state often leave their extra weed behind as a host’s gift since they can’t take it on the airplane. I’ve also been able to secure bookings from pot tourists during the slow months. However, I would not recommend having a 420-friendly listing if you aren’t comfortable with pot. It is your home, and you shouldn’t accommodate something that makes you uncomfortable.

What do you do to air out your place after guests who smoke marijuana stay there? I’m not opposed to it - I’m mainly worried about the residual smell. I’ve been told that it doesn’t linger the way tobacco smoke does but I’ve never really indulged much so I really don’t know. The few times I’ve tried it the ensuing food fest from the munchies was pretty epic. I don’t think I could afford to feed myself if I did it on a regular basis - let alone the new wardrobe I’d require when I could no longer squeeze into my clothes…

I open the windows while doing the turn over, and burn a candle. I don’t smell it after that, but my mom (who is a germaphobe) claims it still smells “musty” when she comes over. Probably only 1/3 of my guests smoke pot during their stay, but I hope that the other 2/3 read that I’m 420-friendly and aren’t surprised if any scent lingering smell from the groups who don’t run the ventilation fan.

Do you mean sounds like duck?

Good advise. I say whatever you smoke it must be outside…

I think accent wise duck and fork are both possibles. And without a doubt I used the word 20 times an hour … normally when I burned myself …again. My arms looked like I was self harming that’s how many burns I had …

The rest of the time I was screaming because my soufflé hadn’t gone out to the table on time and had sunk …set back of 20 minutes which is a disaster in a Michelin starred restaurant.
