Legal Weed & Airbnb

Massachusetts actually

My initial thought is to restrict it to the porch and deck. The house has an enclosed 3-season porch and a big deck. I don’t want to go out of my way to advertise it, but I also don’t want to say ā€œno you can’t.ā€ I already have a strict no tobacco policy which I don’t plan on changing (both have strong smells, but tobacco smoke lingers far longer) but given my location close to the NH and VT state lines and about an hour from CT & RI, I could see cannabis tourism being a draw - especially when there are retail shops operating in 18 months or so.[quote=ā€œcs2015, post:16, topic:10079ā€]
I’d say alcohol in itself is worse than pot in itself, really.

Agree 1000%

That’s a good policy - maybe it would be worth it for me to invest in a vaporizer for the house…

I live in Seattle and would much rather have guests smoke weed than cigarettes but don’t allow either in the apartment or on the property - shared driveway and don’t allow access to back yard right now. When that changes I’ll probably allow weed in the back.

I did have guests recently that were clearly having a good time down in the apartment. When I was cleaning I found a bunch edible packaging so think they came for a ā€˜weed vacation’… They left lots of half eaten bags of chips and munchies - go figure…

The only concern is that anything that makes a guest more careless and that includes being stoned increases risk and liability for you, just keep that in mind.

That’s a bit unfair as alcohol is much much worse. You’d have a lazy guest with food wrapper vs. a house party.

Careless? Drunk people cause the MOST issues.

I’m originally from Seattle but live & host in SF.
CA has just become recreational
WA has been Rec
However rules are state by state. Some treat like cigarettes in public domains. (Oregon doesn’t care)

I rent a room in an apt I live in and I added that I’m MMJ friendly. Some ppl need for medical use & you can’t really say no if they have their medical recommendation.

I Vape when I travel- personally unless the host also partakes I do not think it’s okay to just light up a joint…

And now we are going to tell people how they can get medical relief? le sigh

If people need it for medical purposes edibles are widely available for that purpose. Smoking is not required for the medicinal benifits… Seattle has additional regulations about smoking both tobacco and marijuana in public places. Marijuana is only allowed in private residences if the owner permits it.

I have no problem with people smoking for medicinal purposes - I just don’t want them doing it my home. It’s in my house rules and they are free to book another listing that does allow it…

I have no problem with anyone doing anything as long as they don’t ring my doorbell at 2am even though they have the key to the house because they are so wasted, vomit on my bathroom floor, or wander around upstairs drunkenly calling my name while I hide in my locked room frantically calling Airbnb to ask for help with what to do. All of these things have occurred. On the other hand, I like a drink now and then myself and am not against pot, but I would never think it’s all right to have done either before meeting a guest or doing it in front of them unless we were chatting (cigarettes and coffee on the other hand are a different matter). The nature of addiction is such is that if I make no mention of drinking or drug use, I always get people who assume they can, and if I forbid both, I end up offending guests who expected to be booking with a teetoler host and then are shocked when I offer them a beer, soo…it’s hard to be in the middle and expect people to control themselves while here, because then you’ve just become their Mom!

Yes you can, its your house and your rules. People can also show positive result on drug test for being exposed in confined spaces and rightly would not want their children exposed to drugs. People could lose their jobs and children over such. I do understand that marijuana can have benefits for people in severe pain with cancer for example and people with Parkinsons but there is a whole lot of people in America with medical conditions that do not need marijuana playing the medical marijuana card and there are proven very serious physical and mental side effects of this drug. Legalising it was not an admission that these risks don’t exists, rather a way to save money enforcing what is considered a ā€˜lower level’ drug.

Do you mean travel only to places where vaping marijuana is allowed? If you bought your vape device to Australia with even traces of marijuana on it, you would be charged and deported. Lets not even talk about places in Asia with super strict drug rules.

I don’t allow smoking, vaping or partying.

Do you smoke or drink or vape yourself?

Here in Belize they vapor/weed, in fact they never use the pipes as intended. It’s Belize.

I don’t smoke or vape. I also keep drinking to a minimum.

I rented a house down Cape Cod for my family for my brother’s wedding. My sister brought her boyfriend at the time (and claimed the master bedroom(!)). I was horrified that he thought it was OK to vape inside.

He sounds like a real winner

He didn’t last long after the wedding.
