I have a relative in Lawndale California who is thinking about doing Airbnb. I checked the city ordinances there and found that in 2017 they passed legislation that prohibits short-term rentals. However, I see multiple rooms available there for rent via Airbnb when I did a search today. I did a search and found that there was no repeal of the original city council decision.
How are those hosts allowed to do this in spite of the ordinance? Any ideas? Thanks.
Depends on the wording of the ordinance. Some places room in house ok but whole house not ok.
Or they are risking the fines
Looks like it’s based on zoning. If the area is a residential zone, then all short-term rentals (including renting just a room within your home) are prohibited.
