Wow, I have heard similar stories. The guests should only been given a
limited time.
My guest said she broke her shoulder or arm on the 15th February, but still
can’t provide any documents.
That’s unfair @konacoconutz There should be a time limit.
They are certainly happy to give one to hosts to get in documents where there is a damage claim.
It was unfair, and I was crushed. Took me weeks to recover.
Final decision came in today. Airbnb informed me that the woman has sent in a X Ray and a few pictures of her covers bruises, so Airbnb agreed that she cancelled her booking under extenuating circumstances and offered her a big refund.
As I have mentioned before that this woman initially booked from the 27th January to the 16th February and then asked to have it extended to the 24th March. Also need to remind you that I offer 10% discount for monthly booking. You know what I am saying now, her initially booking was for 3 weeks, not qualify for discount, but when she extended her booking she got the discount.
On the 15th February, she told me she broke her shoulder and was in hospital all day. I asked her which hospital, she couldn’t tell me. The next morning, the 16th February (yes, the date she originally booked to leave) she told me that she had managed to find a flight for the day and left on the 16th February. So she left on the same day she originally booked. What a coincidence!
Now Airbnb has agreed that she had serious injury which is extenuating circumstances and should be entitled refund for the nights she didn’t stay. I have just confirmed with Airbnb that the nights she actually stayed were billed at discounted rate (discount only applies for booking more than 4 weeks, she stayed for 3 weeks).
What would you think of the outcome?
It stinks but it’s their policy. At least you got paid for three weeks. Many here advise not taking any bookings longer than 28 days or so. One problem is guests get the rights of tenants in some places.
If you think it’s worth your time you could fight to be paid the non discounted rate. But then again your time is worth something and it might just be best to move on.
I really have my doubts of her injury. It happened just a day before her original plan, and she cancelled the booking on the same day she initially booked. So the result is she paid for the 3 weeks at discounted rate, and nothing else. You won’t believe how much she actually paid for those 3 weeks, less than £20 per night for an en suite room.
Was she telling a true story that she broke her shoulder or arm, or she was just too clever.
The documents she sent to Airbnb are a X-ray picture and pictures of herself covered in bruises. No doctors diagnosis.
Will you be convinced? I won’t.
It doesn’t matter if we are convinced or not.
Who told you that? Air will never ever disclose what they received in terms of documentation. If someone did spill that, they did wrong.
Airbnb wrote to me saying they received X-ray and pictures of her injury
well that’s that then, she’s come up with proof, case closed
That is the first I have heard of a guest being bigoted. Have read a couple of stories about hosts being racist, but not guests. She won’t stay in a neighborhood because it is hispanic and black?? Wow. What a scumbag. Can’t believe that Airbnb would refund the guest based on that. That goes completely against their anti-discrimination policies, (which are actually nicely worded). That is shocking.
I’m pretty sure you posted on the wrong thread. Nothing about being bigoted here unless you think x-ray is code words for something. LOL.
Thank you for the update on this. Was concerned that your guest was going to get the three weeks for free, which would be complete bullsh*t. Your guest does sound like they extended a trip and then changed their mind and left on their original date, but scam or not, if they showed medical docs, then Air really has no choice but to refund the remaining days. Are your calendar days open for re-bookings? Just look at it as a learning exp. and move-on. Try and rebook the five weeks and be happy you got rid of a less-than-ideal guest sooner than expected. You could actually have dodged a bullet here.
Lahope said that their friend a South African woman cancel because they would not stay in a hispanic/black neighborhood, but the guest was still able to leave a review. I was responding to that.
Ok, you clicked on the Caihong post about the xray and the post about the racist guest was days and posts away so it didn’t make sense to me… Not that it really matters.
Thanks. Caihong has asked me on another post about this guest issue they’re having, and I guess I replied to something on here, too, as this one also showed up in my list. When I scrolled down and read the thread, that post from Lahope jumped out at me because it is so shocking, I wanted to note it! I am not on here every day, so have to catch up. It must look random though, but it’s in there…lol
It would be nicer if the replies sat right under the original comment so it doesn’t look confusing, but this is valuable information, regardless. I appreciate it.
Like replies on Facebook posts? I’m not sure I agree with that but again, not important. What is most confusing is that sometimes people reply properly and it should show who they replied to but sometimes it doesn’t. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read an indignant reply that starts “I don’t know why you are replying to me! Blah blah blah…” It’s not only confusing but some people take it personally.
Oh, I have read so many things on here that I could not suss out until I finally noticed the tiny barely there reply sign in the bottom left corner. I was like, huh?? and then, ohhhhhhhh. haha
The best random thread is the one of the pulling the duvet off with lady asleep in the bed. I died laughing reading those. Still giggle sometimes about the “we posted this shit on our listing”

omg, that’s the best thing I’ve read in forever, anywhere on the internet!
Thanks for your support. My guest did pay for the 3 weeks she stayed, but
as she booked for 8 weeks which qualified for 10% discount I offer for more
than 4 weeks booking. So the guest paid for 3 weeks at a discounted rate
(less than £20 a night) and received full refund for the remaining 5 weeks
she didn’t stay. You see why I had my doubt for what really happened.
I hear ya, but you gotta just let that go. Truth is, it doesn’t matter if the injury was real or not. The evidence was, and now it’s done. If the rate was less than 20 a day, then the 10% for three weeks is only 40 quid, so not worth getting upset over anyway. Just try to rebook the days-- and maybe reconsider offering discounts or long term bookings from here on out.
