How do I send an invitation request to a potential guest who previously cancelled

Hi @Caro_Swan

You can’t - they need to make an inquiry or request to book.

I’m not quite sure why you’d want to? Maybe if you could give us a little context we’d be able to make suggestions.

I had a mother and young daughter cancel a booking with us. The 12-year-old girl insisted on staying in a local hotel, while the mom wanted to stay in our house.

I would like to invite the mother to return, without her spoiled kid.

Can you still send message via Airbnb @Don_Burns ?

Can’t believe a parent would allow their 12 year old to dictate where they stay.

LOL. Try being a teacher for 28 years. It’s not the majority by any means but there are tons of kids dictating to entire families

Helsi: Here are the mother’s two messages to me:

Hi Don, my daughter (12) and I will be coming from Berkeley to spend the weekend in Bear Valley. Thank you!

Sorry to cancel! My daughter vetoed Airbnb. At this point, she’s a motel kinda gal. Sigh … Thanks and Happy New Year!

Says a lot more about the parent than the child I’m afraid :frowning: @Don_Burns

If my son had tried to tell me that I would have fallen off my chair laughing.

@Don_Burns You can just message the guest who cancelled by replying to the old messages.

It’s also quite possible that the parent is throwing the kid under the bus. I’ve seen plenty of that in my time.

Good point @KKC

Exactly. It could simply be fabricated as an excuse for something else that the guest doesn’t want to admit (poor planning, lower price elsewhere, whatever). But, it really doesn’t matter. Guests don’t even have to give hosts a reason for cancellation, let alone a truthful reason.

I will add one more cancelation story:

My two-bedroom Airbnb rental is also listed on Booking.com. Currently, mine is the only private-home stay listed on Booking.com among several local hotels in our small community.

Last month, a guest booked my two bedrooms for two nights through Booking.com. But canceled, after soon learning our guestrooms are in a house and not a hotel. Oh well.

A common complaint is that booking dot com guests are much more likely to cancel. I hope you update us later in the year when you’ve had a longer time to assess the booking guests vs Airbnb guests. Is your Airbnb still dead compared to booking dot com?

I have not had any new Airbnb bookings since February.

But I have had four new bookings through Booking.com, since I registered on that rental-property website six weeks ago.

In my Northen California television viewing area, there are frequent TV commercials advertising VRBO and Booking.com for vacation get-aways.

Has anyone seen a TV commercial for Airbnb? I haven’t.

I have but not recently.

Yes, they had a super bowl ad a year or two ago.

Does anyone still watch TV, any more?

I’m being sarcastic, but remember that (1) Airbnb is an internet company and (2) traditional TV viewing (over-the-air/cable/satellite) is steadily declining and this will likely accelerate with the roll-out of 5G wireless in the next 2 years.
