Yes! Bookings are definitely down. In my case, I believe the area has gotten more competition (more listings). Additionally, the US news is reporting people concerned about the economy, so maybe cutting back on upcoming vacations.
Iām in the Portland, OR area and my bookings are about half what they have always been. Absolutely no foreign guests have booked. My 19 yr old cousin is here from Germany for a month visit before she starts school in the fall and immigration almost didnāt let her in. She flew directly from Frankfort to Seattle. Itās absolutely insane. I wouldnāt spend $1000ās to come to the USA and risk being turned away.
Speaking as a Canadian, there is no doubt - everyone Iāve spoken to has cancelled plans to travel to the US. Mostly due to fear that anything is possible at the border coupled with bitterness that the chaos being created by a this soul-less administration is effecting everyone, everywhere. Itās heartbreaking. I really feel for hosts, and anyone in the tourism industry. Just one of the many economic hits for so many - if not everyone.
I always ask: Which of these three do you think are wrong: diversity, equality, or inclusion? They all are important to our basic quality of life. Iām an American who voted for an administration that considers these to be important rights - and the loss to this rumpled and angry old manās idea of a āpartyā will hurt us all profoundly oner the next few years. Sadly, the MAGAts think that rather than lifting us all up, their happiness can only happen if others are pushed down. Your votes matter, and voting based on the price of gas or your fear of fellow immigrants is simply wrong.
April bookings were down since March, and since April last year. Just a few bookings for May so far. Iām in Seattle. Bookings usually pick up in April and May because people are coming to depart on Alaska cruises
I still am having a few Canadians. One for a concert, one for a work conference.
The MAGA answer to that question, unless they are the types who proudly wear their racism out loud, is always that they have nothing against those things, but that people should be chosen according to merit, not demographics.
As if there couldnāt possibly be enough POC, women, LGBTQ+, or disabled, who are qualified. As if DEI wasnāt instituted because those qualified people were too often passed over in favor of a white heterosexual male. This is the BS they try to hide their fear and prejudice behind.
Yep, I just booked an Airbnb for my Alaska cruise coming out of Seattle.
Bookings are down slightly. But more concerning are the quality of guests. The quality of guests has decreased tremendously. It seems like the only guests we get now are the entitled ones.
Canadians I know who are or need to travel to the US are now all carrying burner phones for their trip, since US border officials are reportedly searching travellersā phones.
Our slow down started 2023 when post covid; the market was flooded with new properties in our area. Slow last year and expect it to be slow this year. Of interest though is that most of our bookings for the upcoming summer season are from VRBO, Glamping Hub and HipCamp not airbnb. That has never happened before. Guests boycotting Airbnb?
I have been doing STR for 9 years. Each year I usually get about 5 really bad guests. Iāve already had two and itās only been 4 months. I have however, noticed, that when I lower my prices (Winter) and when itās slower - the quality definitely goes down.
Voter suppression laws? Are you referring to the law that would require a person to show an ID to vote? I had no clue this forum could ever get political, but here it goes. And for this reason I will be exiting this group. What a shame you libs have to inject your opinions anywhere you get a chance. And Rolf, āangry MAGAā with brains in the 1950ās? Perhaps if the Democrats had been transparent when the POTUS was incapable of doing the job he was elected things would have shaken out differently in the most recent election. I wish you a great year with your rentals as I do everyone who is hosting guests from all over the world. Peace to youā¦
And, MAGAs never inject their opinions on forums, do they?
Um⦠no. Voting for Rump because of a perceived issue with President Biden is a weird projection, isnāt it? I seem to remember that Kamala Harris was on the ballot for President, but I do not watch Faux News, so I may have been wrongā¦
Even āFoxā sees the issues:
Your āblue-eyedā reference is not typically a phrase used in English but I am familiar with it because a Dane (of all the blue-eyed people in the world) used it once⦠āMy eyes are no longer blueā. I was writing a story about a con-artist and had contacted him as one of the con-artistās victims.
If you had been a member of this forum for more than a month, you would have been aware of that.
Iām Australian and we are being told to think twice about travelling into the US with our phones. If you have anti Trump stuff on the social media on your phone (it does not need to be you that posted it) you can be denied entry into the country . It is suggested that travellers take burner phones if we want to travel to the States. If you donāt hand over your device password, and are visiting on a visa and are not a citizen or permanent US resident, you risk being denied entry. Even if you are allowed entry, they may keep your device for months if you refuse to unlock it for them. Iām not saying that it will completely stop people traveling to the US - but it will deter a proportion of potential travellers.
Personally I feel that your current leadership is creating an āus and themā scenario. I travel overseas 3 or 4 times a year and Iād rather spend my money in a country where I did not have to sensor my phone and laptop before travel.
Weāre from Australia & honestly we wouldnāt come to the USA at all ATM. ICE arresting people, immigration searching your phone! Maybe have to wait until T has gone - hopefully sooner rather than later!
