Tonight a lady showed up at our address. I said hello and told them that I unlocked the door for them. Before they could head to the room, I stated to the guest,“I sent you messages asking if you would like some complimentary baking and what you would like to choose, and you didn’t answer, so wondering if you would like to choose.” Guest responded saying she didn’t get any messages. I said what is your name, she states “Lil.” I stated, you are not booked with us tonight, I am waiting for a guest Hyeyeung. The lady Lil, is not asian and she does not match the photo of Hyeyeung on Airbnb. Lil showed me the confirmation code but I didn’t think to check to see if it was the same as Hyeyeung’s, why would it be…right? (as it turns out, they both have the same code). I offered to make up the spare room for her for the night as there will be very little to choose from for hotels in town. Lil declined our offer and went on her way and booked a hotel in town for the night. I did give her all the numbers to call to get a refund. I called Airbnb and they stated that the client that i was waiting for was Hyeyung. aI have tried many times to contact Hyeyeung and there has been no reply. Lil spent quite some time on Airbnb and they stated that it was double booked. Has this ever happened to any of you! If I was Lil i would be so upset. Lil told me where she booked and it is one of the seediest hotels in town…there was nothing else. She is going to keep me posted as to the out come. Have any of you heard anything like this happening? I am only on Airbnb, no other platforms.
This doesn’t make any sense. How could you be double booked by Airbnb yet not receive any booking confirmation? Sounds like an internal Airbnb glitch which they are totally responsible for.
Yes! I received nothing from the guest that showed up, no request to book, nothing, but showed that she had paid and the confirmation code. The sad part is that the guest that is supposed to be here has not showed up and it is 8:45 pm. Airbnb contacted me to state “Alright, thank you for your response and cooperation. For now, we will leave the matter to the guest. If she contacts you to check in that’s good if not we will wait for her to reach out to us.”
Your reservation is confirmed and you should be getting your payout.
Thank you
If the confirmation code for both bookings is the same, is it possible that this Hyeyeung made the booking for Lil? (That Lil isn’t Asian is immaterial).
I read recently on another forum of a host getting a booking, and after they accepted it, the name on the guest account suddenly changed to a completely different name.
The only reason I mentioned that Lil wasn’t Asian, as I was expecting a person that looked Asian, as was her profile picture, and she was travelling with another woman, and it was Lil and her husband that showed, I never ask for ID. Lil made the booking herself on the same day as Hyeyeung Sept. 10th. I don’t think that it had anything to do with the guests, but so weird that Hyeyeung has not showed. I don’t have it often that guests don’t show at all, maybe once before if I recall.
The whole thing is weird. 2 bookings for the same date, both through Airbnb, one of which you knew nothing about, and then the booking that was confirmed on your end never responded to your messages and doesn’t show up. Sounds like what they call a clusterfuck.
Good luck! Let us know how it all shakes down.
Best part is that if it there really was a double booking - and it appears like that - Airbnb got paid twice, only paying out the host once. Win for Airbnb.
No, Airbnb would have to refund Lil’s money if they somehow managed to give her a confirmed booking that didn’t actually exist.
Yes, right. So if I understood correctly, there were two bookings and in the end nobody stayed there?
No one stayed in the suite last night. I thought I would shoot Hyeyeung a text message this morning to see if I could figure this all out. The phone number turned out to be Lil’s phone number listed under Hyeyeung’s profile??? What the actual hell Airbnb!!!
When you said the bookings both had the same confirmation number, I suspected something like that. It wasn’t a double booking and Hyeyeung’s profile probably never even received a booking confirmation. Sounds like Airbnb somehow melded the profiles, although that seems impossible.
The other possibility is that Lil is a scammer, and hacked into Hyeyeung’s account, booking under that name and using his/her credit card. Did you even see a profile for Lil? Was her name on the booking confirmation she showed you?
So you sent a message to Hyeyeung but Lil got it? If these are all legit guests, this (Airbnb’s messed up system) makes you look very unprofessional.
Not only do they need to sort out the guest’s issue but also do something for you - which probably won’t happen.
Even that could have been edited to show “Lil”.
I sent messages to Hyeyeung on the platform and she never responded, messages did not go to Lil. Lil sent messages to me and I didn’t receive them.
On the booking confirmation that she showed which was on her phone, said Kenneth, as she paid with her husbands credit card.
A booking confirmation should be under the name of the profile that made the booking, not the name on the credit card that was used. It was probably booked under Kenneth’s profile.
I’ve made airline bookings for one of my daughters who doesn’t have a credit card. The booking confirmation wasn’t in my name, just because it was my credit card, it was in her name.
That doesn’t look like a booking confirmation, it’s a transaction receipt.
A booking confirmation should have the name of the booker and the dates of the booking.
Isn’t that a confirmation code? Lil told me she would let me know the outcome. She never used Airbnb before…only found our place by the general area.I will try and follow up to find out what occurred, for this screw up.
Yes it’s a confirmation CODE, not a copy of the booking confirmation.
I have never been a guest, so don’t know exactly what the booking confirmation looks like on the guest’s end. I’m sure some other hosts who travel as guests can confirm, (@KKC?)
But surely a booking confirmation has the booker’s profile name and the dates of the booking?
And why does that shot on your phone also say “transportation and car?” What does that have to do with Airbnb?
