I get it about not using hot water due to stain setting. But does cold water wash sanitize?
Do you use a dryer? A hot dryer will sanitize. As will hanging laundry out in the sun. Hot water to wash isn’t necessary. Also, if it’s a matter of sanitizing for Covid, the virus does not remain active on porous things like cloth or paper or cardboard for more than 24 hours.
