Assaulted by a Male Guest as a Former Superhost

Quiz time!

Q: When one is viewed as a forum with a “mean-girl vibe,” the best response is to:

A: Recoil in self-recognition and resolve to be a kinder person.
B: Get defensive.

Sue the guests for damages not in Small Claims Court (unless your state allows non-monetary relief in Small Claims), in whatever court allows you to add an injunction also requiring AirBNB to remove the review.

If the guests don’t have assets, sue AirBNB itself with the injunction the primary goal + court costs.

Then why have you been parked on Reddit /airbnb for two years making thousands of comments?

Reddit: User Helsi: Comments

Yes, the standard for when you disagree with someone is censorship and flaming. After all, why should there be dissenting opinions when you can yell them down and block them from existence. Standard forum practice…

Can we please get back to talking about Airbnb and our hosting issues/fun rather than bitching? The owners and admin of this site prefer it to be a place where people can speak freely but sometimes it just gets silly.

Please let me remind you that this is a public forum that can be read by anyone. Some members here are doing themselves no favours by portraying themselves in public in an unpleasant light.

Thank you and please let normal service resume

Laugh and say “you can’t sit with us.”

Seriously, as a former teacher, if I “recoiled” every time an anonymous person said I was mean I’d be in a care facility by now.

Q: When one views a forum as having a “mean girl vibe,” the best response is to:

A. Quit patronizing that forum. (every log on and page view helps generate revenue for the owner)

Not on this forum; at least not with the current mod team. However, if we ask people nicely to do something and they don’t then they might be removed or silenced. Over time these things seem to sort themselves out without moderator intervention.

Some members are completely anonymous so they aren’t doing anything to themselves but only making the forum or perhaps Airbnb look bad. Some members are very close to the trolling line. One thing I do like about the Airbnb community forum is that everyone is linked to their listing so there are no pretenders.

Thank you. When people start a thread, they say their piece.

“Then why are you badgering her? You’re as bad a @Klatchers! Stop attacking a victim!”

People should be able offer support, solutions, criticism, seek more information, dissent. Freedom of speech. It keeps us from turning into a dictatorship.

The other man wanted more details. I didnt agree with the concern about the person source of income, but he has a right to ask questions whether he is male or female or transgender or something else. so why do we need hecklers?

In summary, I said I wasn’t convinced by the story as presented. Maybe correct, maybe facts withheld. I found it incredulous that Airbnb would take such an action and exposure to the media for this treatment. Maybe happened or not.

But I find it a little ironic someone is threatened with delisting in the thread and the anger against it, then someone wants a poster delisted because they have a disagreement with the case as presented.

I will not say anything again in this particular thread

Gee, Helsi, you are right. None of us were there. This whole thing could be fake news. We will see the recap on the Enquirer, along with Trump abducted by aliens.

Either somebody that a making a real meal out,of a sick joke, or it’s true. Either way, I myself aM always curious to know how Air handles security issues like violence. Right now I am not getting any straight answers anywhere. The point is that things aren’t quite as safe as many would like to believe.

I freaking love you, Dusty. Savage. :joy:

If you go on the forum on Airbnb website itself, you will see many many cases of this happening. The hosts have no idea why they were delisted. Some never got them back.

Sidenote…You are entitled to your opinion, but really, why hang on to this argument at all? Freedom of speech protects you from government tyranny, not feedback on an Airbnb host forum. lol I think you’re taking this feedback the wrong way.

Many women, myself included, can get our cackles up when we hear of another woman being abused, assaulted or mistreated. It’s no surprise [to me] that it was the women on here who rallied around the OP because it sounds like the most horrible and frightening situation she was in, and we’re all hosts as well, (some who host inside our homes and share spaces with guests so want to know when anything dangerous happens with an Air guest). Maybe that’s what women do, maybe it isn’t; just my opinion. We listen, we console, we protect. Then maybe we judge and turn into mean girls later. lol

When I read this thread, it just smarted a bit to see the OP being raked over the coals because she didn’t tell her story “the right way.” Maybe just try compassion first and judgement second…because the facts are, that situation of having your listings arbitrarily removed with little to no recourse could, as some have stated here, happen to any one of us.

You really had a frightening experience. I hope that this will not happen to you again and to others.

This ain’t court. This is a host forum.

No matter how narrow minded you seem to want to see this issue, I have no reason to think the poster would be lying.

In Denmark we have a saying: the one who can smell the fart, is usually the one who shatted his pants.

Nice one!

It reminds me of the phrase I use to describe the gossips in our small city, which while it may have city status is in fact a village. If you fart in Plaza Arenal, by the time you get to Plaza Plateros you’ve shit your pants.

@Magwitch yes, nothing better than a small gathering of international scatalogical humourists

I am disappointed that the first responses on this post attack the credibility of the OP and assault victim. But not surprised. Women have had to endure that BS for a long time.

If you walk around in life with a victim mentality you will find it everywhere.

No one “attacked the person”, there is no evidence she was a victim, several people asked for more information, and the claim seemed incredulous.

Jeez - you just can’t help yourself can you?..clearly not a person of your word…unfortunately  :frowning:

If you are going to indulge in yet more victim blaming do act like the writer you claim to be and say that YOU find the claim incredulous. Or better still be a person of your word and don’t say anything more.
