Woollen quilt or doona or comforter

It’s getting cold here in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney. I want to buy a new woollen quilt/doona/comforter (different names for different parts of the world).
Many of the product descriptions say wool is less allergenic, but my own daughter is allergic to woollen blankets- to the touch anyway.

Have any of you used woollen bedding and what was your experience?

I plan to have the woollen quilt with a protector and cotton quilt cover over the top of that.

Thank you!

I use a synthetic ones, just for easy laundering

I have known many people sensitive to wool regardless of whether you call it an allergy. I’d stick with synthetic for cleaning and to avoid issues.

I get itchy with wool, but if it had a cotton cover on it, it wouldn’t bother me at all.

I’d be sneezing and stuffy nosed all night. Please stick to cotton/synthetic blends.

Like you, the wool would make me sneeze.

And I can’t tolerate synthetics (I get hives).

100% cotton for me, for everything on the bed and every towel. That’s all we use for ourselves and for Airbnb guests.

Thank you for tour advice !

I’ve always avoided synthetics, but a friend gifted me a high quality fleece throw, which because I’m small, is big enough for a blanket, and I have to admit I love it. It’s the warmest, coziest thing I’ve ever slept under.

You’re welcome! This forum has been incredibly helpful to me over the years.

I do agree with the folks who say try to get cotton or something natural that isn’t wool.

Most successful for me is having synthetic ones on the bed but have the wool tucked away somewhere close by, maybe by the bed.

Interesting. Thank you.

I treated myself to a silk filled duvet a year or so ago. It is heavier than most but very warm.
