Wondering about Airbnb math on guest rating

I just had a guest having 4.5 rating from 3 reviews. I gave him 1* (one star) rating on ALL aspects after leaving. As a result, that guest is having now the same 4.5 rating average from 4 reviews .
I wonder if Airbnb is taking all banned people from booking dot com and make for them a 4.5 rating result based on anythingā€¦ We can see only the hosts stories but not the rating they gave so we have no controllā€¦ And even if you report a guest for documented bad behavior it looks like they keep him at 4.5 and kiss his ass to book again/earn commission. Did someone see less than 4.5 rating for a guest?

Because I use instant book, I donā€™t look at reviews very often. If I do, itā€™s when Iā€™m waiting for a guest to arrive and because Iā€™m pretty busy, itā€™s not often that I have the time.

But Iā€™m pretty sure Iā€™ve had guests with ratings of lower than 4.5 - or less, even.

Instant book is supposed to offer high rated guests, so maybe this filter was functional for a whileā€¦, so it was less probable for you, @jaquo, and those hosts under ā€˜Instant bookingā€™ to see such personsā€¦ but it looks like they lately lowered the bar as Iā€™ve seen in another postā€¦ or maybe they just delay performing maths behind their ratings just to let them to hit again , Airbnb grab the money, guest gain a good place to stay and host gain the damagesā€¦

Well maybe maths just isnā€™t their strong point. I had a booking request from a guest with a 5 star profile. They said they were booking for colleagues, which in the UK is shorthand for tradesmen/builders. Not always a problem but inevitably messy and usually large vehicles. So I checked the reviews first and at least half were very negative comments so presumably those hosts would not have rated them 5 stars. Which begs the question why guests can maintain a 5 star overall with 50% low star reviews, whilst hosts drop immediately when they get a single lower embedded star review - even if all the overall ratings are 5 star.

ā€¦When ā€œI never give a ā€˜badā€™ reviewā€ hosts tilt the system against other hostsā€¦

Guests ratings also get rounded up, while hosts are rounded down.
These days I leave either a 1 or a 5 - I want it to show!
