It shows up against when the payment was actually made, which was weeks beforehand.

Right, as a few hosts have posted, if a host elects to refund before check-in, Airbnb will take the guest’s refund from the hosts current payout(s) but will hold the guest’s payment to the host until after the guest’s original check-in date.

This is HA/VRBO we’re talking about Brian, and yes, you are 100% correct about the refund before check in procedure with Airbnb.
