Washington State Occupancy tax

Hmmm… I received an email that AirBnb is ‘collecting’ the Wa state occupancy tax as of October 15 2015. I have been remitting this tax for years and I am very curious as to how this will be managed.

  1. Since they did not collect the tax in the past I included it in my cost. Now I am guessing I should take it out of my rate,
  2. Since AirBnb is only one of several sources of business for my cottages… how do I now do my quarterly filing with WA state? Does AirBnb send me something indicating their remittances and I get a credit for this?

Call the tax office and ask them how the Air BnBs are being handled. You can’t be the only one with these questions.
