Video Feedback solicided by Airbnb. Opinions?

I was hugely surprised yesterday to receive a feedback request from Airbnb, following an unsolicited call from their support team, as answer to an open support ticket. They asked for agreement to use the call recording for training purposes, which I gave… I mainly check the option of written feedback, in chat, to have records of what was recommended. I offered written feedback many times until now, but this option looks new to me… The feedback form quickly ended up with an video interview proposal, through Medallia. If someone else also seen this, what are your opinion/feelings about audio and video feedback for training purposes?!

I don’t fully understand the scope of this feedback request from Airbnb with one of their hosts.

Is this something they do occasionally with hosts or do you have to expressly participate in such a scheme with Airbnb?

For any feedback beyond a 2 minute form, especially audio and video sessions I would expect to be compensated for my time. Otherwise I would decline.

I am sure it’s not only me , that’s why I ask all of you. Maybe just a new way of realizing training materials at little to no cost…?! but in this world of deep fakes and impersonation it might be also dangerous… I give my 2 cents to their personal data protection policy . They are still ignoring my country in their Tax help section, having the regulations pasted from a neighbour country :joy:. Not :100: reliable partners…

I would not participate in any of Airbnb’s schemes.

I would not participate in any of Airbnb’s schemes.

Well… except for the scheme where they find paying guests to stay at your short-term-rental property.

Ha. Good one. I guess words ARE losing their meaning. Used to be scheme had a clear connotation of something illegal, devious or secret. It seems to me the only thing that fits that is rental arbitrage, which Airbnb turns a blind eye to. But yeah, I do partially participate in that. Over half my nights booked are direct pay now and I may just get a roommate and shut down Airbnb. So they’ll be scheming without me.

Seriously now, from my long enough experience, at large companies these feedback requests are only a frustration trashing place for users (here hosts)… These requests are delivered by e-mail. So if you are willing to check if something similar was delivered to you - please check your email for ‘We’d love your feedback’ text. What I’ve noticed about Airbnb in the meantime is that they ask me for feedback only after a “successful” support interaction :joy: They don’t want unhappy trainers :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, I have noticed that, too. Or at least after what the CS rep thinks is a successful outcome, even though you just might have checked “I’m done” because you gave up in disgust.

The other thing about those feedback forms- the way they are worded leads me to not respond- “Based on your interaction with XX, how likely are you to recommend Airbnb…”, as if the CS rep is solely responsible for poor service, rather than Airbnb’s poor CS training, and standard cut and paste replies they make the CS reps use.

I have been offered this on a couple of occasions, usually to provide feedback on an interaction with the Customer Service Team. On two occasions I tried to do a short video and when I click the link it never sends, looks like Medallia is a 3rd party app used by airbnb. Im in Australia so not sure if its a problem with distance LOL!

Yes, they try to influence empathetic hosts (we all can feel that the Customer Service and Call-Center employees are mainly very young and poorly payed, only by looking at their performance ) and to transfer their sympathy to Airbnb platform… Sorry, there are a few things I appreciate at Airbnb, but I would never recommend the platform only based on 1 of 10 good interaction. To evaluate a platform more criteria are to be met …

You made me curious, @Wolle :joy:, when I will gain some free time and feel the need to have a bit of fun I will try to record a community cat and send them the video. I will come back with news, I promise :crossed_fingers: Eastern Europe here. For Australia it might be not the distance but maybe be due to your special legislation ?! Interesting…
