I wrote a bad review but since I had his review removed, I’m pretty sure my review of him was also removed.
Hi Lynick, Im following your post with interest because it highlights how some guests can break house rules and when reminded do not change their behaviour but instead continue to flout the conditions of their stay even to the point of misrepresenting you in a revenge review. Given the social context of conditions in USA it is wise to consider carefully guest behaviour, receiving parcels & mail implicating your address plus a dual passport would raise red flags for me, if only for privacy and safety concerns. There seems to be an increase in entitlement and or provocative behaviours that I think is important to nip in the bud if we as a society and community are going to be collaborative and respectful with each other. This guest was not. I have just come back from overseas and witnessed first hand some of the entitlement discourses by certain groups of people that will thankfully not be tolerated in some quarters, unfortunately there are places where they get away with it and so it continues. Thank goodness he has gone now. Times are certainly changing! Warm wishes. Dee
I agree with most of what you said, @Wolle, but I don’t understand why a guest having dual citizenship would raise any red flags. I know lots of people who have dual citizenship, and there isn’t anything even remotely sketchy about them.
Right now, in fact, there are lots of Americans who are very scared about what is going on there, and applying for citizenship in countries they have ties to, because for instance, their parents were born there, and getting citizenship is not problematic for them, but just a matter of filling out required paperwork and waiting for the requisite bureaucracy to grind along. Dual citizenship provides options for people if they want to move.
The guest was here on a work visa. ICE has been targeting some of these folks. I do not want anyone to claim my home address as their mailing address.

My state will give tenant rights to people who stay longer than 30 days and having an address with mail will help them. One of the reasons I’m doing STR vs long term is because my state makes it hard to remove a tenant.
HI Wolfe,
Airbnb does not let you vet the guests before you accept. I also have instant book. I did not even know he was here on a work visa and dual passports untilI confronted him with the mail I received. He didn’t really comprehend why I was concerned about it.
Prior to the current administration , I did have the same rule to prevent establishing residency at my STR. I’m careful to never extend the stay beyond 28 days.
As for the breaking of my rules about guests, as you can read in my earlier comments I should have insisted that he provide guest info, etc or cancel reservation. It’s been a really slow winter season and I needed the $$ but I do take full responsibility for not putting my foot down more sternly once he broke the visitor rules.
As long as the guest has been pre-approved (name, address, age and photo) I’ve never declined a request. I’ve refined my rules after this guest’s stay to require any overnight guests be added to the reservation but all guests entering the STR must be pre-approved and only 2 people maximum are allowed in the STR due to my insurance policy rider.
I just checked- I can now access my messages (they disappeared for a few days) and could view the review I left him.
It does raise the issue of protections all round and how we can manage safety as hosts and avoid the curved ball of being accused of discrimination in the event that a guest pulls that stunt and gets away with it. Dual citizenship status is getting attention more recently as various governments try to enhance security for citizens and immigrants. I appreciate Muddys response. Glad you are now safely out of this scenario, because I only do in home hosting I do not use instant book. Ive just been to an international forum where global issues were discussed debated by a range of panel members and it has increased my awareness of some of the issues citizens from various countries and organisations face.
