Unauthorized Prom party breakup in progress

Well, it had to happen at some point for me and I guess now is as good a time as any… Mary “Smith” and her sisters Anna “Smith” Myah “Smith” and brother Ryan “Smith” were supposed to be staying tonight to attend a family reunion…hmmm so far at least 7 people (4 girls, 3 guys) and camera covering and attempts to move them.

House rule violations so far as I head over with my 6’7” bouncer neighbor ready to rumble if needed (already informed Airbnb):
Driving on lawn x2
Parking on lawn x1
At least 3 (and likely 6 because they likely can not produce IDs with the names on the reservation) unauthorized guests
Unauthorized party in the making (armfuls of food and drink and signs and games and mention of dice and the rules of the games and Jell-O shots…)

Oh and there is a deluge of a thunderstorm on its way to the rental as well. I already got caught out in it at my own home.

Wish me luck with whoever is at the house now. I know the booking guest already headed out in her prom gown.

First time camera tampered with, I shut off power and throw them out. What is hard about this?

I think about longterm success (impact on neighbors) and evict short term idiots without an eye blink or delay. Yes, it is in my agreement

Yes. Will add that to the list of rules. The party is over now and glad because the house reaked of alcohol. Heading home and then finally to bed. Will update on what transpires with Airbnb and collecting my fines.

By any chance, are you in South Jersey? About a month ago the house was booked for May. I looked up the name on Facebook, and he was a high school student. I called Air BnB, they told me that they did not see a problem so I told the rep to cancel their reservation even if it meant losing superhost. I told AirBnb that if one of those kids died of alcohol poisoning or some teen was raped, as the homeowner, I would be liable. The rep thought I was over reacting. I don 't know how parents allow this and it really annoyed me that AirBnb was on their side. I wondering if it’s the same group of kids,

Hang on a minute … you let the party happen?

Luckily my neighbors all prefer to help each other out personally than to involve often times incompetent or just over worked and/or under paid police. My neighbors are awesome that way, if not a little “redneck.”

I only contacted Airbnb about it somas to attempt to have them on my side as well. So far, it APPEARS they support me. They were mad that when they were contacting Mary about the party and unauthorized guests she eventually stopped replying to them.

Nope. We are in North Carolina. Turns out the guest doesn’t live in Macon as her profile says but life’s in the same town…go figure. I think I 2 of the people were actually the ones she said and should jab right been authorized but they refused or were “unable” to produce ID.

When I got home I did some research and it turns out that two of the girls are twins so there may have actually been 8 people there instead of the 7 I was able to count while cameras were being messed with, etc.

The twins, and likely others, were underage drinking but perhaps it wasn’t their prom as they were 20.

Technically there was yet another that came back to the house to retrieve everything and everyone but he didn’t get out of the car (that Mary parked in the lawn again).

No, as soon as I knew what was going on I contacted Airbnb and went to the house to stop it from going any further. The real party had not started as I put the Kibash on it. Mary and the rest had all left one person at the house (the party prepper I guess) to head out in their gowns and tuxes. They had already been drinking and had Jell-O shots based on the smell and the contents of the trash and one wrapper left on the counter.

Ironically CM was very concerned about the “cleanliness issue” and wanted to know “Please let me know how much are we going to charge your guest for the cleanliness issue.” I replied, “$300 for the 6 unauthorized people, $150 for driving on the lawn 3 times and $75 for leaving the house unsecured. If she pays her fees in accordance with the House Rules I’ll forgive the cleanliness issue.”

50 minutes later I got this response:
“Hi Kelly, sorry for the late response. I will coordinate this with your guest.”

So they’ve gone - thank goodness. It sounds as though Airbnb are being sympathetic?

Do you have smart lock and ring type doorbell or outside security cameras? I don’t even let them in if a large group show over capacity.

They get the door code when they appear and either I meet them or we have brief chat through Ring. They need to reshow me the ID of the booking party and the credit card used to book. If fraud, they not get in unless they have REALLY good explanation

Yes, surprisingly given my history with them. It’s about time. I still have outstanding open issues though so we shall see.

Yes. It was the doorbell camera they were blocking but not the one attached to the porch light. They also turned off the one with the motion sensor light that doesn’t even work to record right now…lol

Interestingly, several of them downloaded and accessed the smart lock through Mary’s account (this had been discussed in other threads in the past).

I only let authorized people in too but once Mary checked in (late) she left and the party didn’t show up until late evening. Thanx for your method but I don’t sit and watch the camera all the time waiting for every person to show up and authenticate with me each time. Once I realized what was going down I did and started recording additionally until I could get there (which wasn’t until most of them had gone to the formal event. Mind you they were definitely coming back for an unauthorized party. That why I involved Airbnb and took matters into my own hands. To protect my property and the neighborhood.

The neighbors were all about supporting me with this. I bring all their property values up with how I take care of mine, even though I don’t live there anymore.

I was referring to when they first come for checkin. They need to contact me to get either me or a door code. If they ring me up, I then observe how many are there, any animals, govt ID, credit card used to book, etc.

Generally, they need to press doorbell to alert me I am there.

wow. what a mess. it is horrible that you have to go through this.

I handle check-one 96% in person and handle them with no problem. It’s who/what the bring in later when I have gone that required the cameras and my good neighbors keeping a watchful eye out.

It also helps that I offer my neighbors a small percentage of any resolution payout I receive that they provided required documentation/assistance for. Only paid out a pittance once but really my neighbors just love me and we all look out for each other.

But at least I was able to avoid further damage and hey, they never even touched the bedding or towels and wash cloths. And my next booking (as of now) isn’t until Friday so there is time for the smell to dissipate.
