I think airbnb needs to stop showing breakdown of cleaning fees in the total cost. Some impractical guests start questioning cleaning fees and I have to use tricks to hide the cleaning fee in my pricing.
Plus this practice fo refunding cleaning fee when a guest cancels is also too simplistic and does not align with how I host (probably some others as well. I stopped charging a cleaning fee because I can keep the whole payment if they cancel. If I charged a high cleaning fee to build an accurate pricing strategy, I’d be screwed. I have to pay my cleaning crew a certain amount even a guest cancels - it’s their price of being available.
