To bump an old post or start a new one?

I am not sure what the etiquette here is. I wanted to start a post that it told me was like other posts that were over a year old. I once saw someone complain about a post having been resurrected and getting notifications about it again year later so I was curious.

There is no black and white rule. I would say if you want feedback on a current situation, etc. then it’s best to begin a new thread with your story instead of adding onto someone else’s story.

Or if you would like to begin a discussion on a new or old topic then go ahead and start a new thread. What applied six months ago, may not apply now.

I agree. Just start a new topic rather than tagging on something a year old. People could have changed their views in a year’s time or Air could have changed the policy by the time you read something.

Someone complained about this recently, so I split the topic but all the people were still replying to the old post, sigh. I guess it means locking the old post so that all,the new replies are on the split topic.

If I were you, I’d do what seems like it will net the best results. If someone doesn’t want notifications, they don’t have to enable them. Also, if you start a new post you’ll get people saying your issue has already been discussed and directing you to the old post.

It might depend on the topic. If it is something like cleaning fees, that discussion will tend to be the same old same old. If its policies that are in flux, such as Air forcing children or similar, old topics and replies may get outdated and therefore, unhelpful.

Many thanks @cabinhost, @konacoconutz and @EllenN I totally understand looking back to make sure my question is not already answered as to not junk up the forums.

I was compiling my physical print house manual and had a million questions, most had already been answered. The rest I decided were not as important a thread as this question.

Actually I think it’s a great idea @konacoconutz the wise one :kissing_heart:

I’ve seen both these reactions reading through several existing threads - disapproval of resurrecting an old thread and telling folk to go back to an older existing thread instead of the new one. As this is a bit subjective, it’s a situation where you can’t win. Might put off getting involved in more discussion.

I wonder if there’s a way to link different threads as duplicates, or even merge them. The reverse process is useful too.

On another note, it can be a bit distracting when people go tangential into essentially a different topic from that of the thread. (Irony alert! :smiling_imp:)

Query about kitchen ending in cake recipes and stain on pillow turning into sharing pictures of puppies!

I wonder if it’s feasible to break off these tangential posts to a new thread. If it is, one may start with this very post!

You will never get me to be opposed to cake recipes or puppy pictures for any reason. Those are two of my favorite things.

Ok, your post qualifies to be included in my proposed split thread
