We are in a position to offer boat rides to guests because we are directly on a body of water. Is there anyone out there offering boat rides or something similar? Thanks!
I’d check the legal situation first. (Sorry, I’m assuming you haven’t - you may have.)
I’d want to know about liability. Given the right insurance, it sounds like a great idea.
I don’t offer boat rides but we’re also on the water and provide kayaks for guests to use but first they have to sign a waiver. It might be cheaper for you to provide kayaks with the price of fuel being so high.
Alternatively, direct guests to local places where they can rent boats / kayaks / paddleboards and so on.
We’re waterfront and so I understand how it’s tempting to want to offer as much as possible to guests so that they can make the most of their stay.
But my attorney (who I also co-host for) recommended that even bikes shouldn’t be supplied because of liability issues. I have a local company that will deliver kayaks and paddleboards directly to the guest on an hourly basis and, if they’ve never used them before, will train them in usage. She also supplies lifejackets and all the equipment they guests need.
So much easier for me.
I would not do that unless I had a Captains License.
I’d always heard that liability waivers aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on if someone takes you to court.
@muddy Yea, I think that they’re mostly used as a psychological deterrent to people suing, since most people assume it’s legally binding.
