We’re new to Airbnb but have done STR’s through Realtors for 30 years. We’ve been wavering about using VRBO in addition to Airbnb but having read the above thread, I’m sticking to Airbnb. The ability to screen and vet guests is important to us and VRBO’s lack of host protective services and protocol rules them out. I’m comfortable with Airbnb’s payment schedule.
At least VRBO allow you to charge a security deposit, unlike th faux arrangements on Airbnb
It’s not my intention to come on here hammering about how great OwnerRez is, but I use them as a channel manager and as of about a year ago, you can do VRBO via API with just one property and that means you are your own CC processor. You can choose a processor with a very business like set up and aim for being under 3% on fees or you can choose Square/Stripe and keep it simple, but either way, you get the money right away, you control it, you deal with chargebacks and security deposits (I use a CC hold now) yourself. It’s lovely to have that control.
I don’t want to proselytize, but you can ask if you have questions.
