Renting to traveling nurses

Hello Fellow Hosts! I’m in Miami and I’m wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a site who offers short term housing for traveling nurses, etc. Your feedback is appreciated.

You can use ABB to rent longer term. Most hosts renting over 21 days require leases to avoid squatters. I’ve successfully managed long-term guests in my shared room that booked via AirBnB because their company paid for it. They’ve signed month-to-month leases and I’ve never had an issue.

Furnished Finder was founded specifically for the travel nurse industry. Some of the ABB homes here are also on that platform. I was never successful in getting a booking and am not sure if it’s worked for other folks. BDC and VRBO allow longer-term leases as well.

Never book without a lease in place.

@casailinglady thank you for your message. I recently hosted nurses via Airbnb but wanted to hear from other who have been attracting nurses by using other platforms.

I have used Furnished Finder- Travel Nurses in the winter which is my slow season. I have had mixed experiences. I do not allow animals since the nurses’ shifts are usually 12 hours and they can’t manage the pets. That also includes service dogs - I had a scientist tell me he had such a dog and his shifts were long and he couldn’t take the dog with him. I use a separate rental agreement and a full security deposit for the monthly rent and had to use it once. I also charge a cleaning fee. I have had some wonderful guests but mostly singles or a few couples. I have a two bedroom waterfront apartment which is totally separate from the main house. I would recommend getting a cleaning service in once a month and put that in your rental agreement. I also charge in 4 week increments since that is how I charge for my STR. Get references!!! Anyway good luck if you go that route. One more thing, make sure you leave yourself an opportunity to get rid of the guests since I ask a guest to leave after two months of a five month stay.

I don’t know if this is any good, but it might be worth a look.

It seems legit.

My wife is a travel nurse for the past six years and we have also rented to travel nurses. She has used both Airbnb and furnished finders to find places to stay. I believe she has also used some Travel Nurse social media sites to find places.

When she is staying full-time, we often do a month-to-month or three month lease. Contracts are 13 weeks, however, can be extended by the week, by the month, or an additional full 13 weeks.

Depending on how close the assignment is, travel, nurses may want to just rent for a few successive days and then set up something to come back on a regular basis. Or they may want to rent and reserve the space for the entire time of the assignment. We have stayed where we have rented a one bedroom apartment or ADU, and she has also rented just a bedroom with other travel nurses in other bedrooms.

There is always a risk that an assignment could be terminated early. However, that has only happened with my wife once in six years.

Travel nurses often work 12 hour shifts and sleep a lot when not working. It is always good to clarify what shifts they will be working and sleeping to make sure that your accommodation will provide the proper quiet time for sleeping in darkness if they are working night shifts and sleeping during the day.
