People with ‘no issues’ (this term is undefined on Airbnb) can use Instant Booking on behalf of others. I have encountered this situation multiple times, and it has consistently led to significant problems. These ‘others’ cannot access the platform, making it impossible to communicate with them in a verifiable way. Moreover, they are unable to view the house rules. I would like the option to prevent such bookings without having to resort to cancellations as a host. I’m sure I’m not the only host facing this issue. Do you see any way to prevent this from happening without disabling Instant Booking entirely?
To cancel an Instant Book third-party booking, log in to your hosting platform, navigate to the specific reservation, select “Cancel Reservation,” and choose a reason for cancellation.
When a guest goes against Airbnb principles, they are the ones at fault.
You should make them aware of this to cancel.
If they don’t, then no, it’s not your problem to cancel.
BUT you should call Airbnb and tell them about the booking going against Terms of Service.
They have to undo the booking to not be charged, btw, and if they do not cancel you have the option of denying them entry.
Thank you, @Rolf, and Happy 2025!. So you say “There is NO simple method…” I modified my prebooking message to make them aware that I do not accept bookings on behalf of others. I can only hope that this will work as a filter…
I would add to your prebooking message that it’s against Airbnb’s TOS to book on behalf of others, that the booker has to be among the guests on the reservation, and that you will have Airbnb cancel any third party bookings.
That’s beautifuly said, @muddy, unfortunately the length of prebooking message is really limited Still your idea is better than mine, since I’ve made it sound as my rule. It’s better to promote restrictions as coming from God even if this God is blind and gentle with anyone who pay I’ll reformulate, Thank you!
Try this for the prebooking message “The person booking must be a guest at our place during the stay or AirBnB will cancel the reservation”.
