Price inaccuracy when altering reservation during middle of stay

There seems to be a bug in Airbnb’s calculation of cost of extending a reservation during the middle of the stay. In my scenario, I’m hosting a group for 4 nights for ~$560. This includes ~$105 for base price; $30 for 2 additional guests per night; and a $40 cleaning fee. During the middle of the stay, guests requested to extend the stay by 1 additional night. The price on that additional night’s base is $105. And add the $30 for additional guest, it should be $135 in additional revenue. But AirBnB says the price differential is only $95. Not wanting to cause any waves or raise price on the new night to make my guests feel cheated, I went ahead and accepted the $95. And looking at the new total price, it was only $655 and it says it’s for 5 nights at $135 per night (-$20 service fee). The cleaning fee is gone! So I think there’s a bug with their algorithm where if you alter your reservation during the middle of the stay, somehow, the cleaning fee is subtracted. I think they’re double-correcting - which is a bug. Anybody else seen this recently?

I have found that AirBNB’s math is often wrong when doing a CHANGE RESERVATION. This is one reason that I always initiate the CHANGE. First I calculate what it out to be, hit that CHANGE button, and then manually enter the correct amount.

Not sure what you can do if you have already accepted. Might be worth a call to airBNB.

This always happens when we do a change reservation, their maths are beyond screwy. Always double/triple check before pressing accept. I also refuse to alter reservations on the app bc Of this glaring bug.

I simply ask people to make a new reservation, after removing the cleaning fee first, or to pay me cash for simplicity. On one occasion this resulted in the guests leaving me two 5* reviews, with the second saying " Must be 5*; we stayed another night"!

You could have just gone in and created a ‘special offer’ at the correct price.

I have seen the weirdest calculations on Special Offers lately…nightly stays jumping from 30 a night to thousands. Used to do them a lot more…but now pretty impossible to use.

My point is the OP didn’t have to accept a third off his standard day rate he could have created a special offer for the correct amount. And if there was a problem creating the special offer, he could have contacted Airbnb to help him correct it.

Thanks guys. Looks like this is a bug happening to a lot of people and folks have been using various methods as workaround. The best to me - seems to be just create a new reservation with special price with the cleaning fee removed.

I hate that you were “bitten” by the Airbnb calculation bug. I understand your dilemma of not wanting to cause the guest confusion or hard feelings about the rate. I’ve seen some of their crazy math too. It sounds like the additional day was availalbe so I guess the your only solace is that $95 beats $0 for a non-rental.

yeah exactly - $95 versus 0. Although I would have preferred $135. But I know the guest would see the $95 figure if they asked for the 1-day extension - so I’m kinda damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don’t. Even if I did a new reservation request with special offer that removes cleaning for $135, the guest might have already seen the $95 figure and they might feel insulted.
