"Pets Allowed" in No Pets Listing

I noticed what I think may be a glitch in my listing: it says “Pets Allowed.”

Fortunately, guests can’t add pets to their reservation, but I could foresee someone showing up with a pet after seeing “Pets allowed” listed prominently as an amenity.

I don’t host pets. I have no pets checked under “house rules.” I asked CS to remove “Pets allowed” from my amenities. The CS agent asked me to screenshare (I didn’t know we could screenshare through the AirBnB web browser), the CS agent tried to guide me into removing this “amenity” with no luck.

He then said I am required to have “Pets Allowed” as an amenity because I must host service animals and ESAs. I explained that while I am happy to host a service animal in line with my local law, service animals are not pets, and it is inaccurate to refer to service animals as pets. I didn’t bother explaining that AirBnB no longer requires ESAs.

I thanked him for his time and hung up. I know the routine, phone again until I get an agent who knows AirBnB’s own policies, but it is frustrating to have just spent an hour to be told the wrong information!

The latest update has seemed to result in a large number of glitches. I’ve never had anything mysteriously change on my listing, but everyone would do well to check all their settings.

But can’t you just go into your amenities section in “Edit listing” and remove the “Pets allowed”? I’ve always been able to add or remove things in the amenities list.

I can’t understand why pets allowed is even in the amenities list. It isn’t an amenity, i.e. something provided in the listing.

That is what the CS agent tried to have me do. I even screenshared and showed him I didn’t have the option, and that I have “no pets” checked in my “house rules” section.

In his follow-up message, he reassured me “pets allowed” refers only to service animals and is a feature and not a glitch!

Check under Calendar/Fees and see if you have something entered in “Pet Fee” If you do, the system automatically shows you accept pets. Found this out by accident

How do these people even have jobs when they spout off exactly the opposite of Airbnb and ADA policy? You aren’t allowed to refer to a service animal as a pet. You should report him
for discrimination.

So I read on another forum about something similar- a host said she noticed “King Bed” in the amenities section of other hosts’ listings in her area, but didn’t see it as an option to check, even though she has King Beds.
So it seems that maybe there are some things that the Airbnb algos put in amenities, that aren’t available for hosts to change or add?

There is also a new guest search filter for “Pets Allowed” finally.

It’s not under the amenities list that a Host can choose. It’s actually found as a Guest Search Filter under amenities/features. It seems to be working as I just did a test incognito search using the King Bed filter and results only showed listings with King beds. The system must be pulling the info from the Rooms section of the listing.

The host who said King Bed didn’t appear in her amenities had King Beds in her Rooms section.

It wasn’t a matter of it “working” by only showing listings with King Beds, it was that her listing wasn’t showing that in her amenities, and CS couldn’t tell her how to change that.

Hmmm…I see. I know the thumbnail will show bed size if you only have one bed. If there is more than 1 bed it will only show the number of beds. I’m not aware of any ability to add King Bed to the amenities list, but that would be nice. :slightly_smiling_face:
