In our airbnb, there is a shared bathroom between two rooms. It has separate towel racks for the used towels labeled Room 1 and Room 2. I have found that if every other day I remove all the used towels I get incredibly wonderful positive reviews.
Don’t they get upset when the towels are just . . . gone?
edit: I replace the towels lol.
Honestly, I do laundry every 2-3 days (with turnovers etc and my own) so it is easy to do this - and I get a number of private PMs saying how appreciative they are that they have fresh ones. It also really helps me because the small bathroom does not get humid and everything stays fresh.
Again, moving the laundry out of the bathroom almost every other day has no downsides for me, and often results in excellent reviews.
Ahhh! Replace the towels.
I get it now.
I thought it might be an advanced Host technique to show the guest ‘who’s boss’ and make them utterly dependent on the Host.
I think that only using a towel for two days before washing is wasteful, but it makes a lot of sense in a small shared bathroom, and if it impresses guests, seems an easy enough thing to do.
Originally I thought this was not a good idea, because I did laundry once a week, so throwing towels in every Saturday seemed considerate of the environment etc.
But soon I was doing changeovers almost daily (my str is max 5 days and the usual stay is 3) so it was no issue to throw towels in those loads. It took the same amount of laundry soap, and drying time was the same, so I did not think twice.
We specifically ask that they don’t make the bed so we can check the sheets and do the laundry!
Have had guests who tried to wash the sheets and did a Terrible job so we had to redo them anyway
I don’t care if they make the bed, cause I’m going to unmake it and check for stains anyway, it’s actually easier to check for stains if the sheets are smoothed out, than all bunched up, I find.
I also live in the tropics, with lots of dust in the dry season and lots of insects in the rainy season, plus the ubiquitous geckos that run around the walls eating mosquitoes and other bugs and drop little poops everywhere. So I leave the used bedding on the bed until I have another booking coming in, because clean bedding wouldn’t stay that way for long.
But yeah, I wouldn’t want guests washing my sheets and towels. That only happened once, because the guest, who was a really nice gal, ate something that gave her the runs and she had soiled the sheets a bit. She was so horrified and embarrassed to tell me, and said, “There’s no way I want you touching these. Just show me how the washing machine works, please.” They came out clean. (I have a private room homeshare and normally don’t offer washing machine use to guests)
