This has fixed the problem for me. My listing shows up as occupancy of 6, but because of local requirements I only accept two adults, plus their kids.
I kept getting requests for other groups, but it stopped when I changed the title:
“Comfortable Family Home (2 Adults +kids +pet)”—plus the name of our airport.
Since making that change, pretty much all our booking requests are exactly our target market.
I changed the listing to “Contemporary Condo in CITY for 2.” Let’s see if it helps. Thanks, everyone.
I have always had the words “for solo travelers” in my listing title. I’ve still gotten the occasional inquiry that asks “So is it only for one person?” or asking if their friend can bring an air mattress and share the room (no), but as I don’t use IB, I’ve not had the issue of guests showing up with more except for one when I first started hosting.
She wasn’t trying to pull a fast one- she was a newbie guest and just didn’t realize guests don’t have the option of inviting others to stay with them just because they paid for the space.
