There’s few things grosser than a cat litter box, IMO. It wouldn’t be so bad if the cat people kept them out on the back porch or something, but they always seem to be in the bathroom, a hallway, or I’ve even known cat owners who had them in the kitchen 
I’ve had a few cats in my life, although I way prefer dogs, but they’re good for keeping the rodents away, as long as they aren’t fat and pampered, and all my cats have done their business outside, I’ve never had a litter box.

I my own social circle I’ve noticed that people that are untidy in other ways have the cat box in an undesirable location. People who are tidy have it put away.
