We purchased one outright, with no additional fees. As long as you have only one user, you can avoid recurring charges. It has let us know when our heat went out - which was really helpful. For us, it’s the temperature, fire, and motion that are most useful. It also monitors noise and makes an estimate of the number of people by counting WiFi devices.
That said, I was happy to purchase it outright, but I wouldn’t sign up for recurring payments since I’m not a fan of that model.

We also use them. Started with NoiseAware but switched to Minut. I like all the additional things Minut monitors, plus the app is much easier to use.
