Nobody Should Be Traveling For Fun Right Now COVID-19

Unnecessary.

I didn’t call you a crybaby. My exact words

I stand by the quote.

AirBNB is not benefitting … they are losing a huge amount of money and their ability to go IPO as planned. They are now in a situation where they might not survive 2020. It hopefully will benefit them in the long run but while it may be difficult for you to accept, they are acting responsibly.

They are doing what we would want if we were guests with reservations and found ourselves not able travel. We would all be wanting our money back for extenuating circumstances.

You say that you are now quarantined and accept the situation but continue to bemoan the fact that AirBNB acted in a “knee jerk” manner, before you yourself acknowledged the severity. That says something in itself.

Had we (in the US) had a President who acted in a timely manner (in January) maybe many of we wouldn’t be in the current situation we all find ourselves in.

Just because I disagree with much of what you posted and call you on your inaccuracies does not make it “condescending ” or “insulting”. You’re own tag is ‘Let’s Share Thoughts’ and that’s what I’ve done. It is just not what you wanted to hear.

No, you are not alone. There’s a whole huge contingent of hosts who think asking a guest to pay 50% of a service they won’t receive for a circumstance beyond anyone’s control is somehow “fair”. If Airbnb hadn’t instituted the EC for this pandemic, there would have been a whole lot of hosts who refused to return guests’ money. There are lots of guests right now saying they will remember going forward that their bookings with Airbnb were refunded 100%, as opposed to some other platforms.
Whole lot of hosts out there yelling about how without hosts, Airbnb wouldn’t exist. Without guests, hosts wouldn’t exist.

If Italy and GB and the US had had a “knee jerk reaction” a lot of dead people would still be alive.

Everyone of the guests I reached out to and assisted in getting a full refund, responded with that they were ever so grateful and should they have the opportunity to replan their trip, they would seek my listing out. This is customer service and that is what brings guests back.

Oh Gawd, I love how one arrogant person can completely distort words of another and start a bandwagon. Look how quickly the torches and pitchforks come out. How absurd. When Airbnb implemented this policy it most certainly was a knee-jerk reaction because we didn’t even understand the gravity then.

Nobody, including myself, ever suggested keeping any guests’ monies. That is not in a single one of my posts.

We too, refunded everybody, even those who booked after March 14th because as I stated, it was the right thing to do to flatten the curve and shelter in place. I even stated that we’d go bankrupt in order to SAVE LIVES. Wth did you read? So yes, please tell me how my morals are skewed. Pftt

What I did state was that there were other options available rather than an autonomously decided response from Airbnb that left too many hosts in a lurch. Millions of people have lost their jobs NOW. That’s the damned point! For the guests, the are taking one trip, the majority for pleasure, but for many (most?) hosts, this is THEIR job and we were screwed by a gigantic multi billion dollar multi national corporation, just as people are by so many American based companies.

Seriously, why does anybody even bothering posting on here. What a joke.

By early March? Not sure who “we” refers to. Maybe you didn’t. Many of us did.

I think this post has exhausted its usefulness to the community and should be closed.

@LetsShareThoughts and @HH_AZ please continue your discussion on a private thread. Feel free to invite anyone else into the arena with you. But no one is benefitting from this on the public part of the forum.

I know first hand what being screwed by a gigantic multi billion dollar multi nation corporation is - I worked for a large Fortune 500 company since college, before being laid off (along other over 50+ employees).

With that experience behind me I can fairly state that I don’t accept that I was screwed over by AirBNB. AirBNB afforded me a platform to market and process guests and their payments. YOU (and I) had the option of using other platforms or going solo. We agreed to abide by their rules at their discretion. YOU had the choice of going solo; YOU had the opportunity to use other platforms. Had you done so, you would have abided by the other platforms rules or Had you gone solo, it would have been your call on how to handle the situation.

Instead you elected to abide by AirBNB’s EC rules.

I realize these are trying times for everyone, but blaming AirBNB for this situation is unfair and untrue. There are plenty of examples on this board of AirBNB screwing hosts, however I do not consider how they’ve acted in this pandemic to be one of them. My Opinion, My thoughts (that I’m sharing)

I apologize if I sound harsh or insulting, condescending, rude, political or any other terms that YOU have used to describe me. I realize that I am angrier than normal; I’m angry with the way Trump administration has handled (and is handling) this Pandemic. I’m angry with all those who continue to support the incompetency that he demonstrates every day. And I am angry when I see people not accepting the reality of the situation including the difficult decisions that “gigantic multi billion dollar multi national corporations” and small and medium businesses are having to make.
