Apparently this starts in September.
They are changing the payment date to the day AFTER the guest checks out!
Did everyone get this email?
Did I read it correctly?
I didn’t get this. (But I don’t check email all the time these days).
I really don’t like to say this because I have LOVED using Airbnb, but it’s all getting a bit silly these days.
The email just mentions new payment terms, you need to click a link to see the details.
Apparently Canadian hosts are being treated differently.
A month long stay ……and you get paid after….that could have some serious financial effects for those hosts that fly close to the edge, particularly those who do rental arbitrage
Not quite. If you’ve had at least two completed stays and are not in violation of other terms, then the payout is by the end of the business day after the check-in date.
My heartburn is that they explicitly say that you’ll only get paid if they’ve received payments from the guest (“subject to and conditional upon successful receipt of the payments from Guest, Airbnb Payments will initiate Payouts”). I suspect this is not new, but how do we know if AirBnB has collected the payment or not?
While I’m not hosting now, got the new Airbnb Terms of Payment that goes into effect Sept 8. OMG, the terms goes on for pages and pages.
To think that when I first started in 2015, I never read any of this stuff, which IMO is beyond ridiculous.
We don’t know and never will until they tell us they couldn’t collect payment. I don’t know if the wording is new, but the policy isn’t. I’ve read for years of hosts having guests in residence only to be told by Airbnb that they were unable to collect payment, so they are cancelling the booking and the guest has to leave immediately.
And lest you assume this means the guest really didn’t have the funds, or that they are some kind of scammer, this is not necessarly the case. It is often due to Airbnb tech glitches and contravening their own TOS.
Here is a recent lengthy account by a guest detailing this.
Here in the UK it appears to have already been implemented - for my last two bookings payment has only been sent the day after guests checked out…
why the heck would they do that to hosts? they seem to be punishing hosts- always something new to make our lives harder
Are you saying Canadian hosts will still get paid day after checkin? I sure hope so.
