Morgan Stanley - IPO

Yes to both.

I know. My husband tells me I’m crazy to be nervous.

Fine with me! Less competition when I open back up! Vaccines will arrive here on Monday, but it will all go to medical first responders, hospital staff, and nursing home staff and patients.

I bought 100 shares of Apple at 16 a couple of months after it went public. A couple of years later I worked a summer at a Federal fisheries lab as a contractor on their fisheries databases, but NOAA’s consolidated financial center a thousand miles away had a huge backlog of unpaid invoices dating from early in the summer.

In late August, I needed to pay fall college tuition, so I sold my AAPL at 32, thought it was great that I doubled my money in just 2 years. In October, they released the Mac, and it was up over 100 and has split many times. It’s all a gamble where timing is important.

I’ll keep my investment in my real estate, thank you.

Perfectly understandable. In some ways it seems too good to be true. I checked my MS account every day until the shares were showing and the ACH debit showing at my bank account.

I would like to sell part of my shares and have been trying to get a hold of anybody at MS (by calling the provided Financial Advisor phone number & leaving messages) but did not get a call back. Did anybody else have the same problem?

I tried calling the Financial Advisor number several times too w/ no success. I ended up calling the general customer service number 888-454-3965 and was eventually forwarded to an advisor who was able to assist me in selling. In all it took around 30min.

I have also tried calling since Friday - 3 times total (20 minute hold time) and never got through to anyone. Very frustrating but I will try the customer service number.

I have been trying to call since Friday as well. They never pick up…

Tried calling our local branch and they were very nice and they couldn’t get through as well. So ridiculous.

When can you sell the Airbnb DSP stock? Is the any lockup period? Thanks

There’s no lockup period. But you have to sell it through the Morgan Stanley phone number they sent in the confirmation email.

Ok, I see. But the number is a junk. I called that for 50 mins and nobody answered.

Did all of this already take place? The opportunity to be involved in the Directed Share Program? I pre-registered back in November and was counting on AirBB to send information regarding next steps, and was watching for any communication incredibly closely. Never received anything at all, from Morgan Stanley or otherwise. What’s the deal at this point?

“And it’s too late, baby now, it’s too late”

I addition to it all being over (read the thread for more info) it seems clear that not everyone who indicated interest in November (what you call pre-registering) was given the opportunity to participate. What’s not clear to me is if everyone who wasn’t offered shares was told they didn’t qualify.

How long have you been a host?

What I’ve noticed from reading posts on this and the CC, is that many hosts appeared to find the emails confusing, even though you and many others who acted on this and bought shares, didn’t. One posted the email he got after the shares were all sold, which was clearly, to my reading, a rejection, “all sold” email, yet asked if that meant he was no longer eligible to purchase.

Yes, it happened on December 9. A lot of hosts who got the initial email did not receive an actual invitation. The interest was much higher than they anticipated. There are multiple threads here regarding it.

Hello…its me.

1st - totes apologize for any offensive remarks…
2nd - the survey…i screen shot it and will frame it…truly amazing. and to answer, i wish I could say all the above. But I was 100% inebriated and Im sorry I said any insulting remarks…but truly priceless the sense of humors this forum has…hehe. I truly am a person who wishes well for all and i think i got flustered with the, even now, people who dont read the thread or read emails then feel they got jipped. The world doesnt wait for anyone ever.

3 - to the person that said i must be a teen, my goodness, god bless you. as i grow older, now in my mid 30s, ill take it as a compliment

4 - why dont people read…this thread is so easily read to some blogs not requiring page turns…i mean, isnt it insulting to those to pay attention than those who dont? i mean…to be asking this 10 days later is not a good look.

5 - i write what i feel, which entails abbreviating, like a text…why do i need to articulate in fully explained words…i work for a family business…restaurants (!), we own part shares of IHG properties (!), and my MBA was in brand mgmt with a focus on luxury (!)…im embarrassed for being so drunk and annoying, but I do mean what I say when, meritocracy is key in anything you do, esp airbnb. I do believe airbnb should be weeding out, slowly with time, less perfectionist airbnbs. Otherwise, why shouldnt market share be given to these multiplying mini 10-20-30-300 property airbnb mgmt companies…

6 - vodka redbulls bring out the monster in us. but to conclude, airbnb net net had done me way more right than wrong. and thats all that matters. soon, the ones who have all this chagrin for them wont even be allowed…and then what? id rather eek $2m from 2 locations than $5m from 5 is how i think in my bread and butter world. what makes u think airbnb will need u in the future?

All the best ya’ll. And again, my sincere apologies for any insults and whatever i said. It was uncouth to say the least.

Cheers,
Goose

Good on you to be humble enough to apologize.

As for why people don’t bother to read, that seems to be a phenomenon of our times- in the digital, high speed age, it seems many people have a hard time reading or processing anything beyond a 2 line text message. People respond to emails, ignoring the questions you asked them, as if they never even read the email, even though they’ll say “Hey, great to hear from you!” And self-absorption is a thing now, too. Their opinion, their outrage, their whatever, is so important to post that they don’t bother to see if their questions or issue were already addressed.

Abbreviations and acronyms are annoying on public forums, because many posters have no idea what they mean. I’m twice your age and didn’t grow up in a texting generation- all those abbreviations and such are unintelligible to me, beyond LOL and OMG. So when people post using those, it feels to me like they have no interest in dialoguing with anyone outside of their own age group or those who already know exactly what they’re talking about.

It’s like when I asked my daughter’s boyfriend, when we all went out to dinner early in their relationship, what he did for a living and he answered that he was a IT consultant. Now if someone tells me that they are a elementary school teacher, or an auto mechanic, or an interior designer, I can picture what they do all day. I have no idea what an IT consultant’s job consists of.

It’s unclear what you mean by “less perfectionist Airbb’s”. And why you think that just because someone generates a lot of income for Airbnb, that they should be given more perks. The whole thing about Airbnbs is that they are unique- they aren’t generic hotel rooms. A host like me, who has a home share listing, one private room, in a very seasonal market, doesn’t generate a bunch of income for Airbnb, but I get guests who are looking for just that kind of experience, happy guests, and consistent 5* ratings. Those people who have had a good experience will go on to book more Airbnbs, so it’s good for the brand. Not all value can be measured in dollars and cents and there is no reason why small time hosts who are offering a quality experience to guests should be treated as second-class.

Of course dirty listings with broken furniture, disgusting carpets, stained linens and inattentive hosts should be culled from the platform. No one has an argument with that.

Now just try to refrain from posting inebriated

Nice recovery, Goose!
I read a recent quote of Chesky’s, can’t recall exact words but the gist was about improving “quality” of Airbnb rentals. I had a twinge of concern for the shared space and “budget” hosts. I wonder if “quality” is code that Air will focus on more upscale (more $ per night, more lucrative) spaces, as they tried and failed with the Plus designation.
The economics are straightforward – as long as there is demand for higher cost accommodations, and the platform overhead and support costs are roughly equivalent per listing, higher-end STRs are more profitable.
If I were young and entrepreneurial, it might be a good time to launch a more bare bones budget platform, say with background checks but no guarantees or live customer support and independent payment arrangements (“more choice than Couchsurfing, less creepy than Craigslist”), for an annual host fee.
