I have decided to replace the bottle of wine with a plant. If they are vegetarians they can go ahead and eat it! 
My wife (Italian) would love a host to provide her with a bottle of wine, but probably best not to make it an issue.
We have been married 50 years, she likes her wine, I am a tea-totaler–maybe I should replace the wine bottle with a teapot.

BTW, my wife and I have been partial-vegetarians since 1980. Have not eaten beef at all since then.
When I was a student in the UK I discovered you could leave a half drunk bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale in the cupboard and finish it several days later and it was no less drinkable than when first opened.
I am a partial vegetarian as well. Part of my diet is vegetables. And the other part is meat.
