Just when an inquiry couldn’t get any whackier- I swear one of my friends are pranking me!

Got an inquiry for a 2 bedroom upper level rental in my home which is a shared space downstairs with living area, kitchen.

Questions-

When are the best months to see snow in Colorado? Am I supposed to provide a snow guarantee if I’m wrong?! I answer we are 90 minutes from Breckenridge snow guaranteed there for a day trip. Also November and March are heaviest months for snow. (Google is your friend Jonathan).

What kind of car should I get? Um up to you? But ok how about an SUV since you are driving in snow!

How far to the closest airport- in the listing but ok 75-90 minutes to Denver Airport.

I also state in my reply that he would have the upstairs 2 bedrooms and bathrooms and common areas such as living area and kitchen are shared with hosts ( as he definitely is not reading)

I shake head and hit send button.

His reply- oh well call me we can talk more. What?! Um Jonathan your phone number was hidden by Airbnb they mandate we go through platform.

His reply- well here is my email- ( Also hidden by Airbnb:rofl::rofl:) so email me and I will give you my number. Um Jonathan your email is hidden ( I already told you we are going through platform).

His reply the next day , Hey, quick question do people live on the property? or do we share the cabin with other guests?

I already told you this listing is a shared space UGH!

His reply “ Oh nice, I see you have multiple listings on the property what is the difference between all of them and how far is your property from Breckenridge?“

Um Jonathon I am not explaining every one of my listings to you that I have spent hours giving detailed information in each description.

AND I ALREADY TOLD YOU WE ARE 90 MINUTES FROM BRECK

At this point I declined him. No way am I answering random questions from this guy for 2 months before his stay.

Also he only had email verification and his pic looked like a stock photo. :-1:

New guests have no idea how things work, and as all guests, do not read. I have a pre-saved message telling them that all answers about the property are in the listing, please contact me if there is something you need to know that is NOT in the listing.

A second pre-saved message says that questions about the area etc are easily answered by google.

That’s a great idea! What was really over the top is I answered his questions in my previous responses to him. So not only did he not read the listings, he did not read my responses sent directly to him.

That’s when I decided to decline. If he’s not reading my responses to his inquiry- no way will he read follow the few house rules I have.

Lol wow! We get people who try to give us their phone numbers and emails too and don’t seem to understand that we can’t call/email them. Good for you for declining him, he probably would have been a nightmare to deal with.

Yes he would have been a nightmare to deal with! I can just imagine the questions that would have came my way before his stay.

Hopefully by declining him I made him a little bit better of a guest for any future host! Just because we have a business of hosting in our homes does not mean we are at your beck and call to answer the same things over and over!

Go with your gut. I think you did the right thing. Another host may have had the infinite patience, but not me.

The people that start with tons of questions scare me. Asking for recommendations is one thing but asking to basically be told, repeatedly, what is already available to someone if they would take the initiative to help themselves, is quite another. Good for you dodging this one!

From the experiences hosts have had with these Questionners, it very often turns out they continue to be a pain during their stay.

I’ve had a couple of weird queries from people with stock photos. Made me think they were kids doing it for the lolz, the modern version of prank phone calls.

Also he would have complained about the snow.

Yes, he would have complained about the snow and asked for rides🤣.

Just as many of them are lovely guests who aren’t needy at all during their stay.
