I am looking to add an additional bedspread for ease of washing/turnover. I’m also wanting something lighter for the summer months. Does anyone have good recommendations, particularly on Amazon?
I got a plain white bedspread at IKEA. I really like it because it’s thin, a single layer without padding or quilting, like a cotton blanket. Washes nicely. Here it is on ebay.
I have that one as well for my guest room and our bedroom. Love it! It is holding up well to washing and there is enough overhang so that it looks attractive.
I have an IKEA in town so I may just head in then. I wanted to make sure that their bedding holds up well before I bought some. Especially if I’m moving to bedspreads in white I want to make sure they hold up well in the washer!
I just bought three in blue!! Thank you, thank you! That rich dark indigo blue is the color I use to style all my beds.
Naturally shipping excludes Hawaii. Not fair as we are part of the US West Coast shipping district. Some people have not caught up to this fact. Costs no more to send to Hawaii than to Los Angeles.
Okay, I have decided to make a trip to IKEA next week. What are your recommendations for your properties that hold up well for your guests. I’m mainly thinking towels, bedding, etc, but if there’s something you’ve gotten that works great, let me know! I’m thinking of updating my silverware since what I have is mismatched from the thrift store.
IKEA has great flatware and dinnerware, although it is pretty ubiquitous.
We made the change from pale aqua to white a while ago and guests are far more respectful of them. I wash them after every guest just in case of stray bodily fluids but they hardly ever have a single mark on them.
They have these soft, nubby bath mats that I love. They are really nice under foot and they wash up very well. I have four sets, and I just rotate them out with the towels. I think they are $8 each?
I got a super nice all cotton quilt and shams that match my room accents at Ross for $39. Perfect weight for Hawaii. No stains so far.
By the way, that throw pillow is bright yellow, not pale yellow.
I bought Ikea dinnerware for one of my units and I really like it (and so do my LTR’s renting the unit). It’s the ones that are like Corelle brand except they are all white. I also like their $5/set of 4 steak knives. Good quality for the $$.
Shipping to Hawaii is my complaint too, Kona. I ordered my baby granddaughter her Christmas gifts from Toys R’ Us and they arrived in Honolulu 10 days after Christmas!! Took about 6 weeks total to arrive and there’s even 2 or 3 Toys R’ Us around Honolulu!! USPS, however, gets stuff there in less than 1 week from California.
Unfortunately, Amazon Prime (my fav place to buy stuff online) doesn’t cover Hawaii either.
They probably shipped them ground which is literally book weight or boat ballast. On the mainland it would arrive in one week. To Hawaii more like six weeks!
So now I’m debating on colors. I know @jaquo said that people are respectful of the all-white bedspread. My concern is lack of contrast in a small bedroom. I like the idea of being able to bleach difficult stains, and not ruining a nice bedspread with dyes, creams, etc. But I also think all white sheets with a solid gray bedspread will look nicer in the room. I guess if a bad bleach spot happened, etc, I could just flip the blanket or use it as a spare like I do with towels that get bleach spots. I just think that without repainting and redecorating, an all white bed may not work. This is the room now:
I think the white bedspread would add to the room, especially against those green walls.
I definitely think it would look good against the walls. But the night stands are off-white. Would this look weird? I’m also worried about with the current curtains, though I do plan on replacing those in the near future with room darkening curtains anyway.
