Today’s departing guest left me $20 and a note “thank you very much for being patient when I was a pain”.
He was kinda a pain. But self-awareness shows promise. And he left the space clean. So now I’m glad I was patient(ish) with his excessively needy texting and questions. And I think $20 get me a decent bottle of wine which will improve my attitude even further.
That’s lovely. The only time I’ve been left a tip is from guests who have booked via my website or have walked into the pub next door, thinking an “INN” does rooms.
Must be the going rate – I got my one and only tip, yes for $20, from a PITA guest who I threatened to cancel, until he straightened up and flew right.
I had a couple leave me a $20 bill once. But I have I’ve had other things left like boxes of chocolates, little things like that and I have a whole binder of thank you notes. Honestly I was reading reviews of other hosts in my area And I was quite shocked when one of them got a bad review from a guest because the guest said “people leave me tips since I’m the one that cleans the room”. Wow I found that to be rather bounc and I was quite shocked when one of them got a bad review from a guest because the guest said “people leave me tips since I’m the one that cleans the room“. Wow I found that to be rather Ballsy!!!
I am an in-home host and I have received cash tips, flowers, candies, gift certificates, wind chimes, artwork, artisan olive oil and and vinegars, invitations to dinner, offers to stay at guests homes and a multitude of other items. I am always humbled by them and amazed because this is a business and these are people who have paid my rates/fees, without asking for discounts, and have been spectacular guests. In the 3-1/2 years I have been doing this I have had fewer than 4 guests I would want back and have only given one “thumbs down.” I know I have been extremely fortunate after reading a lot of the horror stories here.
