How would you compensate LTR guest for reoccurring prowler/peeping Tom?

@Annet3176 @Ritz3 @rubychix
This is a great idea - if only I had a spigot in the front of the house! Uggggh.

Run a hose from where you do have one. The sprinklers are made to go on the end of a hose.

Did you see the photo of her place? It’s in the middle of a block of row houses. She’d have to have a hose that reached all the way around the back and front of the building, through other neighbor’s yards. If it was just a house, sure.

@muddy , you are right. This is precisely the situation. Thank you.

@yecatsr Yes, good move! If posting on Nextdoor does not stop the creep’s behavior, nothing will – did you post the guy’s photo?

I’m bored right now. I could sit in the dark in a chair with a super soaker squirt gun….bug spray required. He might hear my box fan with a really long extension cord (keeping breezy)

2 photos and one long video. I wish I could post videos (mpeg4) here! Sooooo creepy. Yeah…great vigilante response. I’m not so freaked out now that I know the locals will be on the look out. If he shows up again this Friday and cops don’t catch him in the act, I will be posting flyers…this one in fact created and posted by a ā€œNeighborā€ I’m bowled over by all the concerned folks. Brings my anxiety from a 10 to a 4.

I am SO WITH YOU on this. I’m in Boulder, door-to -door 25 minutes away. Seriously considering the stakeout this Friday night. Ha! Seriously though, I want him caught. Flyers posted and me screaming at him thorough the doorbell will just make him move on to someone else. At least an arrest would hopefully RING HIS BELL.

I agree with suggestions about not giving any extra money because it sounds like you are doing everything you can to resolve it. (Calling police, asking neighbors etc…) .

That said, in regards to future stays from other guests and encountering the same situation.

I would ask…
Why your house? Is it just because you have a camera which feeds his exhibitionist soul? Could this have something to do with your guests and not your property?

You can check your state’s database and find out if a sexual predator or offender has moved close by (they’re supposed to register as soon as they do).

Have you asked police if they’ve had similar calls in a 5 or 10 mile circumference around your area? Maybe this guy takes turns going from property to property.

Will he stop once your present guests check out?

I hope you let us know what comes of this.

Good luck

Correction. I’ve decided to not post flyers for the time being at the behest of police. I’m going to revisit, however, if he does not come back this Friday and get caught.

Are you implying he is pleasuring himself watching your guests? If they put their privacy blinds on as you say, how can he?

I’m surprised police in your town haven’t acted more promptly. Where I live, they show up in 5 mins even for minor things.

Vivid imagination? Only police profilers, who are psychologists that study the minds and habits of criminals and deviants, could tell you that. We can all speculate til the cows come home.

I don’t live in a large city. This would be ā€œwe will get there when we can. Btw no damage done, no proof, only video of a guy removing a light bulb—nothing we can do hereā€¦ā€

I still want to use a super soaker in the dark…:disguised_face:

As @muddy says, I’m speculating this is what he’s doing because he doesn’t appear to be tampering with windows, but I have video clips where he appears to be buttoning his pants/belt. Like @KKC mentioned earlier in this thread, that spot behind the bushes and camera could be part of his ā€œkinkā€.

The police do show up within 5 minutes, but have so far missed him. Last week were there shining spotlights up and down the street for at least an hour or two…

@yecatsr
I thought this kind of fit this thread…

UPDATE:

Peeping Tom arrested! I posted a tip to Crime Stoppers, and due to that, and the huge response to my NextDoor.com post, my case got elevated to a Detective on the Major Crimes Squad, which resulted in a lot of attention to the case and heavy patrolling of the area this past Friday (he visits every Friday.)

I was glued to the camera (real time, not just alerts) and caught him walking past the property and then unscrewing the bulb at 10:43 PM. I immediately called 911. Meanwhile, someone who saw my post on Nextdoor, was riding his bike up and down the street, and he saw him too. This good samaritan called 911 and followed him, keeping the police on the line. The ā€œpeeper" walked a few blocks away from my property, and although the police were on the scene at my place within minutes, he may not have been caught without this good samaritan! But this guy was able to let the police know exactly where he was, and actually detained him until the police got there!

WOW.

The police were having trouble coming up with a crime to arrest him for, as there was no ā€œvictimā€ per se. The detective got creative and found a judge, finally, at 2:30 AM, who agreed to write an arrest warrant, and into the slammer the peeper went.

As far as compensation to guests, about a week ago, I sent them $150 for dinner on me, thanking them for their patience, etc. They were grateful.

Friday I put them up in a hotel ($200), because I feared it was going to be a shit-show over there, and boy was it ever. It’s good the guests were gone for the night, because the police were investigating until 3 AM (Including taking the light bulb to dust for fingerprints.)

I know many of you think I should not have given money for something that was out of my control, but to me, it was worth it. It sure beats unhappy guests. Or worse having to re-home/refund them leaving my place empty for weeks. I will reiterate that I DID offer to re-home them on two separate occasions, but they declined.

Congratulations! I’m so glad for you and the neighborhood the pervert has been caught.
Right before I saw your post, I thought, oh wonder if the perv came out on Friday.
